Matthew Borgard: December 2013
http://www.matthewborgard.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Monday, December 30, 2013. Review: Earthbound, by Ken Baumann. Back in June, I backed a Kickstarter. From Boss Fight Books. To produce a series of longform essays slash retrospectives slash something something video game books about a few specific titles. I did this primarily because Anna Anthropy. One of my favorite game developers, was slated to write a book on ZZT, an ancient, strange little adventure/creation game I have fond but vague memories of. Next up in the series is Galag...

My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Wednesday, July 30, 2014. I just got back from ArmadilloCon, and boy are my arms tired. Seriously, theyre pretty tired. Anyway, I had a great time at the writers workshop and convention proper, met a lot of cool people and attended a lot of cool panels. Ill have a writeup for that soon. But dont take my word for it! Uh, actually . do take my word for it, I guess. Posted by Matt Borgard. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Matthewborgard AT gmail DOT com. 日本書紀 The s...

Matthew Borgard: Works in Progress
http://www.matthewborgard.com/p/works-in-progress.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. I'm currently shopping my most recent completed novel, Chanter: A Song of War. Here's a short teaser for interested parties :-). While the aforementioned novel is my main focus, I'm also fiddling with a number of other projects:. A superhero anthology, Hero's Lament, focused on portrayals of heroes and heroines failing because of personal flaw or bad decision;. A sprawling, multi-character fantasy novel tentatively titled Daughters of a Dying World. A space opera;. Im a software eng...

Matthew Borgard: May 2014
http://www.matthewborgard.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Tuesday, May 13, 2014. News from the Litosphere. And I have opinions about them! Posted by Matt Borgard. Friday, May 9, 2014. It's not too difficult to name the two video game developers that had the most influence on my childhood. The first is Square-Enix, formerly Squaresoft and Enix, creators of such games as Final Fantasy, Secret of Mana, Illusion of Gaia, etc. There is no other developer that even comes close. Thusfar, any changes have been minor to say the least. I like my...

Matthew Borgard: Authorial Consent is Bullshit - Why 'Clean Reader' is Okay
http://www.matthewborgard.com/2015/03/authorial-consent-is-bullshit-why-clean.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Authorial Consent is Bullshit - Why 'Clean Reader' is Okay. Chuck Wendig (of whom I'm a big fan and more than a little jealous) posted about an app. Called Clean Reader. Long story short, Clean Reader sanitizes a book to take out all of those naughty, corrupting, no good words (like 'poop,' or 'Mike Huckabee,' I imagine). A lot of authors are very upset about this. All Clean Reader does is read the file. The same as any number of ebook reading apps. Th...

Matthew Borgard: Penny-Arcade's boneheaded response to the Dragon's Crown controversy
http://www.matthewborgard.com/2013/04/penny-arcades-boneheaded-response-to.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Penny-Arcade's boneheaded response to the Dragon's Crown controversy. A few days ago, Kotaku's Jason Schreier posted an excellent takedown of the absurd, ridiculous, embarrassing art from Vanillaware's newest title, Dragon's Crown. In case you're not familiar, here's some of the artwork:. In response to the criticism, Vanillaware's lead artist called him a homosexual. So, yeah. That happened. And I wouldn't want to be accused of that. Of revealed, supple f...

Matthew Borgard: Nihon Shoki
http://www.matthewborgard.com/2008/03/nihon-shoki-security-guard-eyes-me.html
My Thoughts 'n Stuff. Tuesday, March 11, 2008. The security guard eyes me suspiciously as I approach the counter. He's seen me for the past three months, two weeks and four days. “ Namae? He says. “ Lolingusu-san,”. I reply. My name is a rolling labyrinth of R's and L's. I am not Yamamoto-san. I sit down at my desk and smile at the secretary, who greets me with the standard ohayo. Her name is Takahashi-san. My living quarters are as mundane as my cubicle. I eat ramen tonight. I have it sent from ...Im a ...

The easiest theme to identify here is disillusionment.
