The new school site for the middle school and the coming high school was officially opened in La Union, Coatepeque, on February 5, 2015. On hand were Tony Aspler and Deborah Benoit, representing our lead partner in the project - Grapes for Humanity Canada. Rotary Hamilton, Telus, and many dignitaries from the Ministry of Education for Guatemala were on hand along with the Mayors from Coatepeque and La Unión. The most important people there were the parents and kids of La Unión - they are beyond grateful.

Las Palmeras – Access Education

Guatemalans giving back to Guatemalans. Las Palmeras is about 12 minutes from the border of Mexico and is a hot, dry part of Guatemala where the majority of the area’s economy is the Pineapple Industry. People here are very, very poor. Through the generosity of César and Rodolfo Peña and Edna Barragán de Peña. Land in the village was donated to Access Education in order to build the first elementary school for the residents of Las Palmeras. Through the enormous generosity of Grapes for Humanity Canada.

Yesterday was the first day for students to sign up to go to middle school this coming January. By days end 10 kids were registered. By the end of next week they anticipate 75 more registrations. Another new school - Las Palmeras Guatemala. In January of this year we were able to open the first primary school in the village of Las Palmeras near Pajapita, San Marcos, Guatemala. Through the enormous generosity of Grapes for Humanity Canada, www.grapesforhumanity.com. The school was built from scratch in just under six months.
