2012 Pacific Crest Trail: Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass | A Clay Jar

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7). 2012 Pacific Crest Trail: Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass. August 30, 2012. February 3, 2016. Apart from the disappointment over the crowd at Surprise Lake, the day had been pleasant, the mountain and lake views very nice and the flowers were bright and colorful. At the Stevens Pass trail head, ready to head out. View south from the first ridge. Looking down into Trap Lake.

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7). A Journey Up the Elwha 2016. May 23, 2016. Lots of roses were blooming along the road. What used to be Lake Mills. The upper part of Glines Canyon. You can see why putting a dam here might be so appealing. All that is left of it now is high up on the shoulders of the canyon, supporting the viewing platforms on either side. Michael’s Cabin, a couple of miles up the trail.
What I Believe . . . The Bible | A Clay Jar

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7). What I Believe . . . The Bible. January 7, 2017. I believe that God has revealed himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ. The author of Hebrews tells us that, in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son (Heb. 1:2 [NIV]) and Jesus himself says that, anyone who has seen me has seen the Father (John 14:9 [NIV]). Jesus is God’s ultimate revelation to us. March 16, 2017.

Abortion has been a hot topic through most of the 40 years of my adult life, and probably before. While I do have an opinion on abortion, I have seldom ent...

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. (2 Corinthians 4:7). December 26, 2016. December 26, 2016. The Shema, in Deuteronomy 6:4-9. Begins with “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” When Jesus is asked for the greatest commandment, Mark 12:28-30. He replies by quoting the beginning of the Shema. This affirms that, at least for Israel, and Jesus, that there is only one God; they are monotheistic. James 2:19. In speaking o...

On the Trail With Eeyore: April 2013
http://eeyorehikes.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
On the Trail With Eeyore. Wednesday, April 10, 2013. I am preparing for another foray onto the PCT this year. And have been working on meal preparation. Last year I left the stove at home. I looked at the Excalibur dehydrators first, but was apprehensive about investing so much money in something I was not sure I would use much. So I bought a 4 tray unit from Nesco. Chicken: I can put a can of chicken on a tray, crumbling it up first, set the temp to about 150 and it is dry in 4-5 hours. Broccoli: Cut up...

On the Trail With Eeyore. Thursday, August 30, 2012. 2012 Pacific Crest Trail: Stevens Pass to Snoqualmie Pass. We ended up hanging our hammocks in the trees a 100 yards up from the lake, over some fairly rough ground. But that is an advantage of having a hammock. Since I am not sleeping on the ground, I don't really care all that much if it is level and cleared. I can swing over rocks, branches and uneven terrain just as easy as I can over a level tent site. View south from the first ridge. After the fo...
On the Trail With Eeyore: PCT 2013: Belden to Sierra City
http://eeyorehikes.blogspot.com/2013/08/pct-2013-belden-to-sierra-city.html
On the Trail With Eeyore. Sunday, August 18, 2013. PCT 2013: Belden to Sierra City. The next morning was kind of ominous looking. There was the smell of smoke in the air and the west was shrouded in fairly heavy smoke. I had not heard of a fire in the area, but it sure looked like there was a new one nearby. I kept a close eye on this potential problem until Mrs Eeyore managed to get some information about what was a distant fire to me. From here I had to say good-bye to California for this year and we h...
On the Trail With Eeyore: Enjoying Cedar Lake
http://eeyorehikes.blogspot.com/2013/09/enjoying-cedar-lake.html
On the Trail With Eeyore. Monday, September 16, 2013. The most exciting part of the trip was getting across the Cedar Creek. I could have taken the easy way out and just splashed across, but I opted to try and keep my feet dry and found a log jam just upstream from the ford and worked my way across it, slipping in a hole once and scraping up a shin. Heading back down the the Graywolf, I found a better way across the Cedar Creek. There was a largeish log that crossed downstream from the trail; a log w...

On the Trail With Eeyore: October 2012

On the Trail With Eeyore. Friday, October 12, 2012. Eagle Creek and Tunnel Falls. If you are traveling the PCT, and willing to take alternates, this one is highly recommended. If you are just looking for a day hike and are in the Portland area, it would be hard to beat the 13 mile round trip up to Twister Falls. This trail was constructed in 1910, and is probably not reproducible today: using dynamite in wilderness areas is frowned upon. A portion of the Vertigo Mile between Tunnel and Twister Falls....
On the Trail With Eeyore: June 2013
http://eeyorehikes.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
On the Trail With Eeyore. Sunday, June 16, 2013. Up the Elwha to Hayden Pass. Because of work commitments I got off to a late start and left the trailhead at 12:45, with thoughts of Hayes River pretty much non-existent, but the farther up I got the more promising that looked. I stopped for a late lunch at Mary Falls Camp and then charged on up the trail and did manage to reach Hayes River by about 7:15 and had the place to myself. Here the trail traverses across a small meadow with a nearby stream. S...

A Clay in the Life
A Clay in the Life. Then I went down to the potter's house, and there he was, making something on the wheel. But the vessel was spoiled in the hand of the potter; so he remade it into another vessel, as it pleased the potter to make." A Clay Jar
Thoughts about life, God and whatever else happens to strike my fancy at any particular time. Friday, May 15, 2015. After completing the section around Agua Dulce, I took a day off and started fresh at the Green Valley Fire Station. After the pipe comes to an end it is replaced by a covered concrete conduit that appears to the hiker as a paved lane running next to a dirt road. Wikipedia says there is about 200 miles of this, although we only had to travel about 8-10 of it. There is quite a contra...While...
