Living an uncommon life. Laquo; A Wedding Cake, Three Men and a Dolly. My Modernization of Olympic Events ». Try a Little Kindness. A person who is nice to you, but rude to the waiter, is not a nice person. . We arrived at the airport and hurried to the back of the check-in line. DH nervously shuttled the luggage through the line, while I tried to keep the dog’s carrying case level and not dump her upside down which would probably cause irreparable brain damage. 0160; a plane. Haircut in a Foreign Land - A Common Woman

Living an uncommon life. Laquo; The Everyday Things of Life. Love at First Sight ». Haircut in a Foreign Land. Our first two years in Russia, my long-suffering husband cut my naturally curly hair. Fortunately, curly hair hides a multitude of sins. But there came a day when I knew I needed a professional haircut. 0160;In the teacups? 0160;  . I did a double-take. OH NO! Every woman had the same exact haircut. The execution of my hair was about to begin. Posted at 05:07 PM. Adam and I read it religiously&#...

Living an uncommon life. 0160;Gruel (noun): a thin liquid food of oatmeal or other meal boiled in milk or water. I first learned of gruel when I read Oliver Twist. Poor Oliver and the other orphans ate gruel three times a day. Little did I know, one day I would be the one stirring a steaming pot of gruel. Once a week, I would start a fire in the wood stove and drag out my cauldron. Into the boiling water, I would throw grain and any scraps left over from our meals. I stirred the bubbling brew and...Once ...

Before the spring concert last Friday, my class did a readers theatre of Robin Hood for their parents. They did a fantastic job and it was only after they were done that I wished I had recorded their performance. Even my first year English speakers were fantastic and understandable. Fourth and fifth grade before the concert. Second grade performing Chim-chim-cher-ree.

http://mystorymysong.blogspot.com/2011/12/babe-in-manger.html

This is My Story. This is My Song. Sunday, December 18, 2011. A babe in a manger. One of the things I love to do at Christmas is to set out my nativity sets. I have a small collection that mean the world to me. I look forward to this ritual every year. When the kids were little, they would help me place the figurines around the manger. This year I did it by myself. After being packed up for a year, I love unwrapping them and being reminded of the incredible gift of Jesus. In the beginning was the Word, a...

From Russia, with Love. I return for another year of teaching in St. Petersburg. I've been back in Russia for just over a week now. My sleeping habits are still trying to straighten themselves out complicated by the fact that it is White Nights. This means that unless the skies are cloudy, we have no true dark. From Russia, with Love. I return for another year of teaching in St. Petersburg. On the Russian calendar, the first day of spring occurs on 1st March. On the Western calendar, it occurs today 20th March. But really, some years it's just a date on the calendar and we look for the signs of spring in other ways. So here are some signs of spring here in St Pete:. Fewer people wearing fur coats. A switch from fur hats to knit hats. Only the youngest children wear snow pants. The Neva River flowing with ice.

From Russia, with Love. I return for another year of teaching in St. Petersburg. Right now I am staying with my friend Carol for a couple of days. We are relaxing at her house. Yesterday we walked along the Puyallup river in the shadow of Mount Rainier. The sun is shining and the mountain was beautiful. Woke up this morning to snow falling and several centimeters on the ground, a white Christmas. As I started thinking, my first white Christmas since my first year in Russia. Day before the last day.
