Monday, September 2, 2013. Summer Gardening and a Surprise! Yes I ask for a lot but it’s all good! Summer has been bountiful as far as plant life goes thanks to the great amount of rain we received this spring. This is one of my favorite flowering plants called Sneezeweed. It’s the first to bloom in the spring and the last to die back in the fall. Best part is it decided for the first time this year to add some yellows flowers to the arrangement. My best friend Deb, yes even the same name, and I have bee...

Acquired Objects: November 2012

http://acquiredobjects.blogspot.com/2012_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 19, 2012. New Obsession.Laurel Wreath Awards. I first got a little obsessed with laurel wreaths when Amy Howard posted about her collection. Trust me I spent a few days searching far and wide for one of these little gems to no avail. There’s just something about then that drew me in big time! Then I saw this image on pinterest and I thought there might be some hope in finding a laurel wreath of my very own. “. A laurel wreath is a circular wreath made of interlocking branches and leaves ...

Acquired Objects: Collecting habit: Tassels

http://acquiredobjects.blogspot.com/2010/09/collecting-habit-tassels.html

Wednesday, September 8, 2010. French silk tassels, left is 18th century with chipped gilt header, the right 17th century. I thought I would show you one of the items I collect and being an antique textile dealer with a love of anything European this item was a natural for me, the tassel. Textiles sometimes come to me bearing only one tassel the other long lost through the ages. Since items look lopsided with only one tassel attached it wasn’t long before I had a collection. 17th century French tassels.

Acquired Objects: Objects of Affection!

http://acquiredobjects.blogspot.com/2013/07/objects-of-affection.html

Monday, July 1, 2013. I need to tell you a little something about myself….I’m highly suggestible when it comes to objects. I know instantly if I love something and then I go on a mission to find whatever it is. My latest obsession is an antique French plaster plaque that I’m blaming on Mon over at Splendid Willow and Loi at Tone on Tone. Don’t you think? I love pieces of artwork that have life of their own and make a simple statement. I'm all about keeping it simple and elegant. Lucky me I finally found ...

Acquired Objects: December 2012

http://acquiredobjects.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Sunday, December 30, 2012. Our winter red-bellied woodpecker is back once again bringing with him some nice bright color on this wintry day. While Mister Cardinal in all his bright red finery likes to grace us year round. We’re blessed in New England during the winter with not only bright colorful birds but also with orange berries popping out begging to be seen against the snow. As we’re about to embark on a bright New Year Dylan is definitely not going to be looking back…. Much Love to you all! Before ...

Acquired Objects: January 2013

http://acquiredobjects.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 27, 2013. Sorry if I’ve been really quiet of late but business has been calling me back to it. First with the Christmas rush and now trying to get my website updated. All these pillows, forty in all so far, are going up on my website but I’ve run into a little snag with that….my program won’t update so time for mister man to come see what is going on with that. Thank the heavens for a computer geek husband. This little putti guy needed a bit of restoration and that 17th century trim had t...

French interiors, rough luxe, flea market finds. Asymp; 2 Comments. Paris Taxidermy Curiosity Shop. 8230; One year ago, a terrible fire devastated the cabinet of curiosities, the room of entomology and most of the historical collections. But Deyrolle is rebuilt gradually and the first rooms are completely restored. Today, the shop is even more beautiful than ever, with many mammals of big sizes, splendid naturalized birds and natural curiosities as beautiful as astonishing. And magnifying mirror…. View h...

Kitchens I Have Loved: July 2012

http://kitchensihaveloved.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Kitchens I Have Loved. Monday, July 30, 2012. Nantucket Seen Two Ways. If you have been following my blog, you know I am conflicted design-wise - warm and antique as my earliest posts demonstrate or serene and spare as Jacobsen and my latest posts demonstrate. It's taken me a while to resolve my conflict (actually it's still evolving), but maybe today's post will help to explain why I need at least five houses. I fear that may be my only resolution. Going back to a House Beautiful. Half of the Maddens' d...

Kitchens I Have Loved: August 2012

http://kitchensihaveloved.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Kitchens I Have Loved. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. Good-by Vermont; Hello Again Nantucket. Had a wonderful few days in Vermont, but being away always throws me off my routine. Caught up with the wash and tidying household tasks, so now I can relax a bit and return to Nantucket before a wonderful new family visit begins Saturday. There's been a touch of autumn in the evening air this week, but I'm just not ready to bid summer farewell. Come, think beach and warm summer days with me. Hence the title - New.

A bit of jewellery organisation. On Sunday, October 30, 2011. I don't know about you but I seem to wear the same jewellery over and over. There are some pieces that never come off (except when going through the airport screening of course).two silver bracelets I bought with money from my parents to celebrate my 5oth are always with me. But my earrings and rings were another story. Not any more! So I did.and now they're being worn.I really must polish that silver one day though! On Friday, October 28, 2011.

Scratch Where It Itches: Back From Mexico

http://whereititches.blogspot.com/2012/04/back-from-mexico.html

I have a simple philosophy: Fill what's empty. Empty what's full. Scratch where it itches. - Alice Roosevelt Longworth. Tuesday, April 24, 2012. That's a bunch of sleep. To recap why I was in Mexico, I went to get weight loss surgery in the form of a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. It is a procedure that takes about 80% of your stomach and leaves you with one that will hold about 1/2 cup of food. This will become my weight loss tool for the rest of my life. Let's Do The Numbers. Starting weight - 257. Hope ...
