Adventures in a new land. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Diet Pepsi and Mentos. Sydney and Hana try to replicate an experiment they saw in "Myth Buster" where you create a geiser with a diet pepsi and a mento's mint. Not quite the dramatic result seen on TV, but it got them excited though. I think we need to try with a 2-liter bottle. Posted by Romos at Hilo @ 9:01 AM. Sunday, August 27, 2006. She has touched many lives in many different ways and everywhere she goes she lights up the room. A talented artist,...

http://romo-ohana.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Adventures in a new land. Saturday, January 13, 2007. A Wet Wet Wet Week with Nonna and Nonno! From the day they arrived it has been raining almost non stop. A couple of days there were moments without rain, and some others in which little windows of blue sky could be seen. So, given that the weather in Hilo during the winter can go for weeks like this we decided to go sight seeing rain or not. Here is a brief summary of the places we have seen:. From Lava Tree we continued on South on Pohoiki Road.

Again, we hit their crossbar a couple of times and missed many scoring opportunities (@&% $#@! Shinkickers 0 - SPF 45 (Seattle) 6. No excuse here, we were just outplayed. Adventures in a new land: December 2006
http://romo-ohana.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Adventures in a new land. Saturday, December 30, 2006. Playing and there was cussing and graphic death scenes.I asked if we could change it and a sweet lady helped me change the channel to Arthur (much better). Even he tried to be sweet in his big, gruff way. I was afraid he would take a look a Rodrigo's cuts and bruises and throw me in jail as an abuser. We have not even moved into the house yet and it already has a police record! Posted by Romos at Hilo @ 7:32 AM. Tuesday, December 26, 2006. Anyways, t...

Adventures in a new land. Tuesday, March 20, 2007. Wong Cooks for Charlotte's Birthday. The event described here took place on March 6. We had to wait until it had been published in the Honolulu Advertiser ( http:/ www.honoluluadvertiser.com. Before we could post it in the blog. Special thanks go to Richard Ha for inviting us to such wonderful event, and to our good friend Macario for allowing us to "piggy back" on his beautiful photograph settings. Adventures in a new land: July 2006
http://romo-ohana.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Adventures in a new land. Monday, July 31, 2006. Last week we made our first attempt to make Guava Ate. This is a Mexican candy (more like a hard jelly) made out of Guava. The girls and I harvested guavas from our trees and tried out a family recipe (from nonna). Well we should've known that nonna was not going to part away with a recipe that easily, so after our first attempt of making Ate, we ended up with Guava Jam. turns out nonna forgot to tell us about a key ingredient in the ate: Pectin! For our l...

Adventures in a new land. Sunday, September 24, 2006. Marshes and Gators and Claws; Oh My! I don't think we're in Hilo any more Toto. Can you guess which is Matt's boat and which is the multimillion dollar one? If you guessed the one on the left is Matt's, you got a good eye. Once I got there it was all good. We had plenty of cold beer and lots of crabs. Here is the bounty that the "Doll Finn" brought to shore. Fresh out of the traps, blue crabs, still alive, hmmm. And here they are! Matt and Pam have be...

Adventures in a new land: June 2006
http://romo-ohana.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Adventures in a new land. Wednesday, June 28, 2006. June 30, 2006. A review of the week. This morning we got a special treat. an unobstructed view of Mauna Kea and the observatories at the summit from our kitchen window. The summit of the volcano is usually covered by clouds but this morning we had a clear view of all its majesty (above picture). We took Angus McCraken to the vet to get his satellite dish collar and stiches off. Hopefully we will have learned a lesson this time, then again. Since the hou...
