Adventures By Aaron

Life in the Diaspora. Tuesday, April 14, 2015. During the summer war. Our flight landed in the early afternoon hours of Thursday, September 25th. After checking into our hotel and familiarizing ourselves with the area, it was time for an early dinner. And what better place than Werner Welser's Heuriger. Okay, perhaps there are better places. We still throughly enjoyed this one and would recommend it to anyone that asks. Accompany themselves on the guitar and accordion. Having missed multiple opportunitie...

Adventures By Aaron: Mexico City, Day 5: Chapultepec Castle

http://adventuresbyaaron.blogspot.com/2011/07/mexico-city-day-5-chapultepec-castle.html

Life in the Diaspora. Wednesday, July 27, 2011. Mexico City, Day 5: Chapultepec Castle. I returned from a week of fun and excitement in San Diego yesterday afternoon.with a brand new Macbook in tow. What this means is that I can finally resume blogging! And as much as I would love to share my California adventures with all of you RIGHT NOW, I feel that I must continue this blog chronologically, and so we now return to Mexico City before any more of its vividness is lost forever. Far behind. Sigh. Boy Her...

Adventures By Aaron: Foreign Service Life: Things I Wish I Had Known A Year Ago

http://adventuresbyaaron.blogspot.com/2011/02/foreign-service-life-things-i-wish-i.html

Life in the Diaspora. Saturday, February 12, 2011. Foreign Service Life: Things I Wish I Had Known A Year Ago. Wow, I can't believe it's been a year already. Or should I say that I can't believe it's only. Two very different statements, to be sure, but both accurately reflect how I feel as I look back on the past 12 months of our lives in the Foreign Service. So much has happened in such a short amount of time that it completely boggles my mind. There were plenty of things I didn't. Make it your own....

Life in the Diaspora. Tuesday, March 17, 2015. R&R 2014, Part 4: A British Medley. Following our day at Windsor. We returned to London for one last farewell show ( West End Bares. Before heading to Anwarul's house in Henley-on-Thames. And now Part 1 is in sync with Parts 2 and 3. Whew! On to Part 4. Is, approximately, a 1.25 hour drive west of London. For this and all of the travels planned for the days ahead, Anwarul rented a car. Because he's awesome. Also, because he's. September 8, 2014. Is a theme p...

Adventures By Aaron: Aurelio Atayde Presento: El Circo!

http://adventuresbyaaron.blogspot.com/2011/08/aurelio-atayde-presento-el-circo.html

Life in the Diaspora. Thursday, August 18, 2011. Aurelio Atayde Presento: El Circo! I cannot believe how many circuses blow through this town. It seems like you can't turn around without almost getting run down by a clown car. In fact, I think there are no less than two circuses in town right now, at least having the decency to play different parts of town. Long-time readers may know of the calamity that was our last attempt at going to the circus, when we found out that Circo do Portugal. At the start o...

Adventures By Aaron: Back in the Saddle

http://adventuresbyaaron.blogspot.com/2012/12/back-in-saddle.html

Life in the Diaspora. Sunday, December 2, 2012. Back in the Saddle. Wow All I can say is.wow. I have never been so tired in my entire life, and all I do is sit in a classroom all day. I had NO idea that language training would be so exhausting. Or that transitioning between posts could be so frustrating. We were ready to begin the thirteen hour trek to Pensacola, FL, where we would renew our Florida vehicle registration. Gotta maintain that Florida residency, y'know? After our evening in Atlanta we made ...

Career Diplomat: Thoughts on entering the twilight of my tour

http://careerdiplomat.blogspot.com/2012/10/thoughts-on-entering-twilight-of-my-tour.html

A recovering lawyer roaming the globe. Sunday, October 14, 2012. Thoughts on entering the twilight of my tour. Speaking of exploring, one of our foreign national coworkers took us through the temporary night market set up during Ramadan this year. This photo is tiny quail, fried crispy. Another popular item was handmade punch-like mixtures in dozens of flavors. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thoughts on entering the twilight of my tour. Wanderings of a Cheerful Stoic. Career Diplomat: Meet the new boss, same as the old boss

http://careerdiplomat.blogspot.com/2012/07/meet-new-boss-same-as-old-boss.html

A recovering lawyer roaming the globe. Saturday, July 21, 2012. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Reading through some of my old posts this evening, I am remembering how I felt when I was on the outside looking in, and wanting so desperately to get "the call" and join the Foreign Service. There's just no arguing that it's a dream job, and it's even better than I thought it would be. If any of you out there are still "looking in," keep trying - it's worth it. July 22, 2012 at 8:30 AM. How to Win Fr...

A recovering lawyer roaming the globe. Tuesday, July 30, 2013. Moving on - home leave and training. I've been in training for a few weeks, and it's a nice interlude before the start of my next adventure. I will be in language training until December, and while there are small frustrations, I'm pleased to have the opportunity to learn Spanish. The best part? Hasta luego, y'all. Links to this post. Career Diplomat: Goodbye Asia

http://careerdiplomat.blogspot.com/2013/05/goodbye-asia.html

A recovering lawyer roaming the globe. Sunday, May 12, 2013. I said my bittersweet goodbyes to Singapore - there are so many wonderful things and people there that I will miss - and I reluctantly packed my stuff and shuffled out of the country. My last few weeks were filled with "one more times" for favorite restaurants and places. I sincerely hope to be posted there again someday. My China experience was different this time around. The first day was so clear! Skyline on Day 2 - smoggier today. I also to...

A recovering lawyer roaming the globe. Thursday, July 26, 2012. Kuala Lumpur: The most exotic place I could think of at the time. Not a simple process. Worth it, but not simple. The famous "twin towers" at night. Now I just need to plan a trip to Timbuktu! Links to this post. Saturday, July 21, 2012. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. Singapore does many things very well, but Mexican food is not one of them. I'm looking forward to the tacos. Oh, and the guacamole. This tour is probably ...Also, the...

What were we thinking?: August 2012

http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Love Thy (Camping) Neighbor. About a month ago, we packed up our camping gear and headed south to Las Cañadas Campamento. In Ensenada, Mexico. After a two hour drive, we found the campground just south of the city and right off the highway. As we waited in line to enter the campground on that early Friday afternoon, we had no idea what to expect other than no reservations were needed for camping. But where should we camp? Chris asked her in Spanish. Saturday, August 25, 2012.

What were we thinking?: October 2012

http://polillo-family.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Thursday, October 11, 2012. I have this dream that life will settle into a normal pattern again one day and I will fall back into the blogging habit. However, today is not that day. Instead, I offer word vomit. Watch out for the spray. Andrew: "Where my kitchen? Me: "It's in a big box on its way to our new house in North Carolina.". Andrew: "Oh. Where my guitar? Andrew: "Oh. Where my kitchen? Me: Banging my head on the wall. And that, my friends, is all I have time to write r...

The Adventures of Brendan & Tarnna | Great things never came from comfort zones

Great things never came from comfort zones. The Adventures of Brendan and Tarnna. 10 years ago I volunteered to teach 2nd grade in Pohnpei Micronesia. And now those 2nd graders are graduating and I am so stoked and so proud of them. They are an awesome bunch and they are gonna do really amazing things in the world. We all need water and can conserve and use water wisely, even in places of plenty. And I just love fish. Add to that all the places I’ll discover and explore along the way. To a sweet little l...

Al came up with this name, but by far he is the one that gets himself into situations that we call adventures but would be considered by most to be either a dirty mess, or close calls, or just plain fun. Abby's Adventures

Saturday, May 30, 2015. Our first week of real live volunteering has come to a close! It's officially the sabbath here (Saturday's are the holy day) and it has been an exhausting week. It was really an interesting experience but we saw many amazing views along the way. In the mornings, we go and work in the nursery/garden that supplies vegetables for the orphanage. We have been weeding and planting and sweating like crazy. It's very hot here! Because it is so hot, we only work from 7-10 am. Steven looked...
