Adventures in Golf Course Architecture

Adventures in Golf Course Architecture. Friday, 8 May 2015. Year in Review - 2014. Bunkers left and right of fairway are staggered and cut into the hillside, adding some challenge and definition to the 13th hole at Kildonan Park Golf Course. Detail of right hand side fairway bunker. We have a few other clients pondering new work for 2015, and hopefully (after a few years of residential permitting complete) this summer we will break ground on the 9-hole addition at Lorette Golf Course. Adventures in Golf Course Architecture: Pinehurst No. 2

http://adventuresingca.blogspot.com/2014/06/pinehurst-no-2.html

Adventures in Golf Course Architecture. Wednesday, 11 June 2014. Pinehurst No. 2. Tomorrow morning, Pinehurst No. 2 will host the United States Open for the third time, however, the 2014 edition of the event will see a significantly altered golf course. The changes made to the historic Donald Ross design were carried out under the watchful eyes of the architectural team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. The wonderful one-shot 9th. No 11 (scene of my only birdie, note approach just left of hole). The restor...

http://adventuresingca.blogspot.com/2014/03/essex-country-club-holes-1-8.html

Adventures in Golf Course Architecture. Friday, 21 March 2014. Essex Country Club (Holes 1 - 8). The new golf course was built between 1910-1917, but Ross was able to supervise much of the work owing to the fact he had been hired as the golf professional at the club, and served in that position between 1910-1913. In fact, Ross lived in a house immediately adjacent to the 15th tee (see picture below). The opening tee shot plays across a creek to a wide fairway occupying the tamest portion of the property.

Johnny Biarritz: December 2012

Order of Courses Played. Golf Digest Top 100 Public. Golf Digest All-Time Top 100 1966-Present. Saturday, December 29, 2012. 2012 was a good year for me. Playing Peachtree in October. This is certainly the best course I have played since Pebble Beach and the best course I have played in the Southern US. The Hundred Hole Hike in July. This was both fun and painful. Walking 100 holes in a day was very difficult. But the reward that came from raising over $2000 for charity was great. Hopefully I can take ad...

Order of Courses Played. Golf Digest Top 100 Public. Golf Digest All-Time Top 100 1966-Present. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Today I played my 200th golf course overall, East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. It was a fine capstone to this little milestone in golf courses. Overall, the course was very good. It was not the finest course I have ever played, but I knew that coming in. A full tour of the course is upcoming as soon as I can get to it. Here is a fun breakdown of the courses played so far:. Walkability:...

Architects: Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin (1972). Yardage: 7,354 Yards, Par 72.
