Adventures in Homebrew: February 2010

http://adventuresinhomebrew.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

A place to talk about beer, homebrew, and whatever else comes to mind. Friday, February 12, 2010. First 15 gallon batch. 17 lbs Briess 2row. 15 lbs Munton's Maris Otter. 16 lbs Dingeman's Cara45 (formerly known as CaraMunich). For hops, I'm looking at Summit and Amarillo as first wort hops, a bittering addition of Warrior, then more Summit and Amarillo late in the boil. I've got some Simcoe and Centennial that might find their way into late additions or keg hops as well. Links to this post.

Adventures in Homebrew: February 2009

http://adventuresinhomebrew.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

A place to talk about beer, homebrew, and whatever else comes to mind. Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Time to try a bitter. I just got done making a starter for Sunday's brewday. I'll be brewing Jamil's Best Bitter (minus the aromatic malt since I'm mini-mashing with Maris Otter) and smoking a pork shoulder at the same time. Should be a good time. It's been a long time since I made a starter! RAZE meeting tomorrow night, woot! The Hopsicle IPA is tasting mighty fine right now. I just tapped the Oatmeal...

Adventures in Homebrew: Assorted Updates

http://adventuresinhomebrew.blogspot.com/2010/01/assorted-updates.html

A place to talk about beer, homebrew, and whatever else comes to mind. Thursday, January 28, 2010. About three weeks ago I finally got around to brewing Denny Conn's infamous Bourbon Vanilla Imperial Porter. I'm entering my Smoked Brown and BVIP and also judging, so it should be a fun day. I think we'll have around 20 entries, so it'll be small, but Ryan managed to score tons of sponsors so we have tons of free schwag to give to the winners. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Westbeier: Hop Rod Ryi IPA

http://westbeier.blogspot.com/2009/04/hop-rod-ryi-ipa.html

Wednesday, April 22, 2009. Hop Rod Ryi IPA. So I didn't take any pictures of this brew, just look at the last brew I posted and it looks the same. Rich got me interested in Bear Republic's Hop Rod Rye IPA about a year ago and I pick up 750ml of this beer frequently. So I decided that I should find the recipe and brew it. Well I recently bought Brew's 150 classic clone recipes special release and there it was shining in the middle of the page. So I wrote down the recipe. 5 gal (all grain). 25 lbs rye malt.

The Beer We Make: Go Hefe Yourself!

http://andrewsbrewhaus.blogspot.com/2008/08/go-hefe-yourself.html

The Beer We Make. This blog is for anyone who likes beer. If you don't like beer, I don't like you. Monday, August 25, 2008. Last Sunday (8/16/08) I brewed 5 gallons of Hefeweizen, Bavarian that is.horrible parody, I know. Anyway, I brewed this beer and everything went pretty normal, by normal I mean I screw up one thing! Although, this screw up is a half full, actually one extra gallon of beer, which means it won't be as strong, but I will have a little extra! The recipe goes something like this. I thin...

http://andrewsbrewhaus.blogspot.com/2008/05/in-russia-beer-brews-you.html

The Beer We Make. This blog is for anyone who likes beer. If you don't like beer, I don't like you. Monday, May 19, 2008. In Russia beer brews you. No russian beer, just not so great brew day. I know my recipe is not exactly what is listed for Denny's Rye IPA, but I went to the local shop and got what was close. It is something like this. Denny's Rye IPA (10 gallon). 22 lbs 2-row malt. 1 lbs cara pils. 1 lbs flaked wheat. The hops schedule, looks something like this. First wort - 2 oz Hallertauer. So she...

The Beer We Make. This blog is for anyone who likes beer. If you don't like beer, I don't like you. Sunday, June 22, 2008. Eat My Ass Amber. I brewed 5 gallons of an American Style Amber. The main reason for 5 gallons instead of 10 is to use the Hopshot I won from Northern Brewer. Which is an alternative hop product for the bittering addition of hops. It smelled really potent and the taste test was insane! The brew day went really well, 5 gallons AG in 5 1/2 hours is pretty good to me! Side oddness, I do...

Westbeier: August 2008

http://westbeier.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 24, 2008. So my cascade hops decided to produce hop leafs. It was very exciting to see them grow. They looked like they couldn't grow any larger and were opening up slightly and were somewhat dry to touch. So Jenny went to town and plucked the first batch. Two Hearted River Ale. One ounce of Centennial Leaf hops added to Secondary, 9/1/08. I found the recipe on Ratebeer.com and I was able to follow it closeley except I made a change to the yeast. 1 lb briess caramel 40. After 18 hours, I'v...

The successes and failures of a New Mexico homebrewer. APA recipe and tasting (and hops! June 4, 2010. Thursday, June 3. Early on, we hit upon the idea of buying our hops in bulk. Commercial breweries might use pounds of hops per barrel. But most homebrew recipes call for only a few ounces. Hoppier beers use more; this APA of mine had 11 oz, added at various stages of the brew. As the NPR article mentions, the Big Brewers get first dibs on the world hop supply.
