Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas. Friday, July 4, 2014. With a nasty sinus thing that I wish I didn't have. Fun times with family- especially my ridiculously cute niece and nephew. At the moment, I'm writing this while waiting for my parents' lawn mower to cool down enough so I can get it to start, so I can mow the second half of their lawn. In the meantime, Hurricane Arthur, anyone? Wow, look at all those place names I know now, because I've been there! Labels: Nova Scotia 2014. It took on...

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas: Benevolent Sexism of the Road

http://adventuresinscamping.blogspot.com/2014/06/benevolent-sexism-of-road.html

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Benevolent Sexism of the Road. I know he didn't mean anything by it, just like the owner of the place I stayed outside Quebec City didn't mean anything by it. But it bugs me, just because I know they'd never offer to back in a trailer towed by a man. When was the last time my dad had somebody offer to back in his 33-ft 5th wheel for him (like the guy in Quebec did for me)? June 17, 2014 at 3:47 PM. June 17, 2014 at 4:52 PM. I know wh...

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas. Monday, June 23, 2014. Rhythms of the Campground. Next Stop: Toledo, Ohio and the check engine light (spoiler alert: it's the catalytic converter). June 23, 2014 at 8:22 AM. I spy another Scamp to the right in the photo above! Fun to read how you spent your childhood camping and the rhythms of the campgrounds, so true how each campground has a similar rhythm. Enjoy the day! Kim and Jeff from MN. June 23, 2014 at 8:25 AM. Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas: Aboard the Princess of Acadia

http://adventuresinscamping.blogspot.com/2014/06/grand-pre-historic-site.html

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas. Thursday, June 19, 2014. Aboard the Princess of Acadia. When the film finished, I took a walk to see the memorial church, which was built in 1922, a beautiful structure. And then I took right turn and walked down the lane that bisected what is likely the Acadian cemetery. Again, there are no headstones, but again, I'm mostly okay with this. The bees buzzed around me, the lupins fairly glowed with the sunshine, and it was enough. Labels: Cats and the Scamp.

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas: May 2012

http://adventuresinscamping.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Adventures in Scamping: Small Space, Big Ideas. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. It's been rainy, rainy, rainy the last week Up North, but there are worse things than being damp on 3rd Crow Wing, staring out the picture window. We got our first pileated woodpecker a couple of days ago and that was exciting. So here's the pics of the floor project:. Daisy, supervising. (She got spayed last week, hence the cone.). Bird's Eye view of the new floor. Under the dead space under the dinette. Labels: Dogs and the Scamp.

The Everyday Palate: April 2011

http://everydaypalate.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Sunday, April 17, 2011. And So It Goes. The semester is drawing to an end. For some that means graduation is right around the corner. All the excitement of the future is ahead of them. Along with the wonder, frustration, hope, and possibility. And while I'm excited with them, I'm sad because it means some very good friends will be moving away. Last year was Babs, and this year is Amy, Chris, Alex, Nikki, and Ian. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Of course the greater parts of my days are spent grading...

The Everyday Palate: An Exploration of Cheese (A GSW 1120 Honors Collaboration)

http://everydaypalate.blogspot.com/2012/02/exploration-of-cheese-gsw-1120-honors.html

Sunday, February 5, 2012. An Exploration of Cheese (A GSW 1120 Honors Collaboration). As I’ve hinted at in my Connotation Press. Column as well as in an episode of Spatula. I’m addicted to cheese. I eat it at least once a day, and sometimes well more than that. What’s beautiful about cheese is that no two are the same. I’ve even found very different flavor profiles among the same brand of cheese; for example, I’ve had Grass Point Farm Sharp Cheddars. The five cheeses we tasted and critiqued were:. Withou...

Sunday, November 20, 2011. Documenting A Weekend (Or A Lack Thereof). Alexandria's Opening Night 11/18/2011. My dear friend and co-star of Spatula. Says where you find a foodie, you find a camera in hand and guests at the dinner table rolling their eyes. It's true. Almost any time I go out to eat, I take my camera. I never know when I will need to capture a meal in a photograph. Then, joined by her hubs, we headed to Findlay for the opening of Alexandria's. Where Michael from Revolver is the head chef&#4...

Thursday, January 5, 2012. Reflection: The Food Lover's Guide to Wine by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg. Photo from http:/ drinks.seriouseats.com/. I'm obsessed with the end of the world. It's probably from the lack of oxygen while not breathing during movies about the apocalypse. The suspense in end-of-the-world movies about kills me. Zombies, aliens, natural disasters, diseases: they all seem possible to me. Jane Austen's Pride and Predjuice,. Yes, I would choose The Flavor Bible. And dear friend, sh...

The Everyday Palate: Eggs: Two Ways!

http://everydaypalate.blogspot.com/2011/12/eggs-two-ways.html

Thursday, December 1, 2011. One of my side projects this semester has been filming and airing an online cooking show through Connotation Press. Our second episode all about eggs really showcases how versatile eggs are. In fact, it was hard to pick what egg recipe to do. Easily, we could have made mayo, a meringue, omelets, a custard, a quiche, a strata, etc. etc. etc. In the end, I chose a frittata because it is my favorite egg dish, and one I make quite often. The Everyday Palate: I Ain't Playing Games!

http://everydaypalate.blogspot.com/2011/12/i-aint-playing-games.html

Sunday, December 11, 2011. I Ain't Playing Games! The past two weeks I have been completely preoccupied. I graded over 125 student essays, read over 125 student reflections, and helped over 125 students prepare for the portfolio process. And the end of the semester- all the while reading The Hunger Games. Needless to say, I am exhausted. But I am satisfied. With the end of the semester. And with how the Hunger Games. Really all I want to talk about is the food. Reading The Hunger Games. Was the first tim...

Monday, June 27, 2011. Weeknight Meals, Comfort Foods, and Perfection (or Not). It's no surprise that I usually spend a whole day cooking, especially in the summer. Whereas most people hate cooking or "being tied to the kitchen," I feel most peaceful, happy, fulfilled, and sane when I'm in the kitchen. At the same time, I have writing projects, syllabus planning, organization projects, and lots of reading and writing I want to do this summer. Ex-wife potatoes roasted in duck fat. The Everyday Palate: The Chew Got It Right with Marrow-naise

http://everydaypalate.blogspot.com/2011/11/chew-got-it-right-with-marrow-naise.html

Tuesday, November 15, 2011. The Chew Got It Right with Marrow-naise. I'll admit it. I'm addicted to The Chew. It all comes down to my love for Michael Symon. I totally have a foodie crush on him. The man is no Rob Pattinson. But when he cooks, he is wayyyyy hotter than Rob, hands-down. And better yet: he's Cleveland-proud, like me. Seriously, I'm truly fascinated by the idea of The Chew.
