This Writing Business: November 2011
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Thursday, November 3, 2011. Reading and Writing and Working, Oh My! This has been SUCH a busy year. The whole year. I can't say I've had a busy week or a busy few days or a busy Thursday. 2011 came in like a tsunami and rolled right over me, and I feel like my head is just starting to resurface. Not because I'm any less busy . just because I'm tired of being underwater. Cleaning my house. Ahem. I want it to happen more.

Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Friday, January 31, 2014. Words on the Page. I just visited this page for the first time in quite a while, and wow, what a depressing state to leave This Writing Business in for so many months! My last post was titled "When Things Aren't Going Well."). I'm happy to report things are. Why the sudden surge of enthusiasm? To write. We make time. I'm making time. And guess what? This Writing Business: January 2012
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Wednesday, January 11, 2012. The Moral of Support. I acquired something very, very valuable recently: a crit group. On a daily basis. But I had a hard time finding writers who were. Eventually, I did find a few. It wasn't a google search that did it. It was plain and simple word of mouth ("You're a writer? Oh, my neighbor's a writer, too. You should meet her.") and good ol' coincidence ("Hey! Critics. Our work isn't...

This Writing Business: December 2011
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Tuesday, December 6, 2011. Is it weird to say I'm jealous of myself? Let me qualify, then. I'm jealous of where I seemed to be a year ago. I logged on to This Writing Business to find a photo I'd posted a while back (which isn't the photo I needed - go figure) and began reading some old posts. Be doing this. I. A writer, really. I struggled with that entire concept in 2010. Work on moving forward. Making time to write.

This Writing Business: April 2011
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Monday, April 18, 2011. Recently I started my second book. It's a little terrifying, since it means not only doing two things at once, but doing 25 things at once. I'm so busy right now I can barely see straight. And I can't let myself lose momentum on revising the first book. But it feels SO good to be moving on another project, and it feels good to be back inside this character's life, back inside her head. About this...

Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Things Chick-Lit Writers Hear. I've never called out the specific genre I write in this blog. (Actually I haven't called out anything at all in this blog in six months. Sorry for my prolonged absence! Something happened this week that made me think about why I write what I write, and why that's OK. First, here's what happened:. This came from someone who said she would "not normally seek out...

This Writing Business: Goals in Focus
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2012/01/focus-on-goals-goals-in-focus.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Thursday, January 5, 2012. A writer friend of mine posted recently on Facebook that instead of resolutions, she’s come up with a “theme word” for 2012. I thought that was a pretty fantastic idea. Resolutions are meant to be broken, but a one-word theme equates to a goal that can stick with me throughout 2012. My theme was pretty easy to come up with:. This year, I want to focus on what’s important. And for me,...Yes No&...

This Writing Business: Surviving Rejection
http://thiswritingbusiness.blogspot.com/2012/03/surviving-rejection.html
Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Sunday, March 18, 2012. I finally, finally, FINALLY sent my first query letter. Sent it on Wednesday, received my first form rejection on Thursday. Deflating, you ask? The possibility of getting published is more appealing than the reality of getting rejected. I can take it. At least now I'm doing something with my manuscript, not letting it languish on my hard drive, emanating fruitless hope and unfulfilled promise.

Random ramblings on the writing life from a freelance-writer-slash-wanna-be-novelist. Study in contrasts: Old and new, neutral and bold, sleek and weathered are at work in 2012 interiors. Friday, January 6, 2012. The Commercial Appeal, Memphis, TN. Recycle, reuse, repurpose, reclaim. These words are hot in home design. They also add up to the design buzzword for 2012: resourcefulness. In fact, interior design this year is about. More than old and new. It's about neutral and bold, sleek and weathered,...
