From Camping to Backpacking to a 14er. The snow storm in late May led hikes on packed snow in the mountains. Then we experienced a heat wave in mid-June with typical afternoon thunderstorms. Wildfires are imminent with temperature in the high 90s resulting in hazy skies. Past Adventures - click photo to see more. Trip to Tanzania began with an overnight stay at Outpost Lodge in Arusha. Getting to the top of Africa on Mt Kilimanjaro involved a 9-day hike on the Lemosho/Shira route. Our guides are from Duma Explorer. At an elevation of 5,400ft and reached the top at 14,400ft a little after sunrise on the third day. For the last couple of days on this trip, we stretched our tired legs visiting Mount St Helens, which we decided to forgo the hike to a viewpoint.
