http://weekendviands.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, April 7, 2013. Baked Chicken with Honey-Mustard Glaze - Gutsy Cooks Club. I guess that, after getting married, Monica. Was feeling like her life was no longer hectic enough, so she decided to re-invent the Gutsy Cooks Club. This time the format is a little different- each cook will pick a cookbook of the month and pick a different recipe for each week. Monica chose Lucinda Scala Quinn- new to me- who wrote Mad Hungry. And Mad Hungry Cravings. They went from barely browned to almost burned in a fe...

Weekend Viands: Panzanella Salad with Olive Oil Bread - Gutsy Cooks Club
http://weekendviands.blogspot.com/2013/07/panzanella-salad-with-olive-oil-bread.html
Sunday, July 7, 2013. Panzanella Salad with Olive Oil Bread - Gutsy Cooks Club. Panzanella, a Salad Perfect for Summer," Marian Burros, De Gustibus column, The New York Times. June 21, 1986 (p. 52). There are some fussy steps to making this really pretty easy salad. Of course, there's baking the bread, but that's not really essential. Then there's the onion routine: swish sliced onions in cold water, drain, repeat, drain, repeat. But you know what? They're so pink they almost look like shrimp. And the fi...

Weekend Viands: Focaccia with Roasted Vegetables - Avid Baker's Challenge

Monday, August 25, 2014. Focaccia with Roasted Vegetables - Avid Baker's Challenge. August 24, 2014. I've been very lax lately about baking, and I thought I was going to miss this baking challenge too, as it was mid-month and I hadn't done anything about baking bread. Then I saw that others, including Hanaa herself, the Queen of ABC, were posting their focaccia adventures late, so I decided that I could too- as long as I got it done before September 1. But you have to try new recipes, right? A big slice ...

Tuesday, June 11, 2013. Grilled Salmon with Sweet-and-Salty Rub and Zucchini Fritters with Tzatziki - Gutsy Cooks Club. July is Stephanie from OrangeSpoken's. Turn to pick the Gutsy Cooks' menus. I missed her first recipe- an heirloom Spanish crepe recipe- which sounded great, so I was determined not to miss the second. Everything else, I made mostly according to Hoyle. I had high hopes for the zucchini fritters- I liked all the ingredients; they looked easy to make; and isn't everything better fried?

Weekend Viands: August 2013

Thursday, August 1, 2013. Scallop Sauce with Olive Oil, Garlic, and Hot Pepper - Gutsy Cooks Club. My last July recipe- finished, in the nick of time, on July 31, but, alas, not posted until August 1. Now I'm ready for the August recipes, which look intriguing. I was so looking forward to this scallop sauce! I love scallops, and seasoning them just with olive oil, garlic, hot peppers, and parsley, seemed like Italian genius. Toss them with bread crumbs and spaghettini- genius squared. Jim: A 7 isn't a C-.

Thursday, March 29, 2012. Crab (shrimp) and Grapefruit Salad - French Fridays with Dorie. While I started in this devil-may-care manner, I did everything else according to Hoyle. Cucumber, orange pepper, mint, chile pepper.everything else was just as it was supposed to be. I loved the fresh flavors of the chile and mint, and the general lightness and healthiness of the salad. Links to this post. Friday, March 23, 2012. Cocoa Sablés - French Fridays with Dorie. Decorating sugar would have been nice, but I...

Weekend Viands: April 2012
http://weekendviands.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 26, 2012. David was in his 40's at the time). Dwayne, Jim's sister's husband, got truly alarmed. "Lamb? I hate lamb. Why would you ruin dinner with lamb? If you made lamb, I'll have to go to McDonald's to get something to eat." Dwayne was never one to hide his feelings. Would he have liked, or at least tolerated, this navarin? It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't, but stubbornness is powerful. And the spring vegetables tasted earthy and luscious. Dinner is ready to be served. Ethereal th...

Monday, March 3, 2014. Mushroom Cheddar Tarts: Avid Baker's Challenge. This is my first foray into the Avid Bakers Challenge (ABC) group. Thanks, Hanaa! I'm having my book club at my house next week, and I thought that I'd use these as an appetizer if I liked the way they turned out, but I'm still undecided. They're pretty good, but I wouldn't say they're amazing. Easier to make than I thought, but they need some adjustments. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). At Home for Dinner (Sarah).

Flour Children: January 2013
http://flour-children.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 28, 2013. I've been doing the Women Living Well. Valentine's Day Challenge. I was afraid that I'd see how I need to do better in this area, and that has been the case. Posted by Carrie Hanbury. Friday, January 25, 2013. I love bread. For real. It's fun to make, and kneading bread sometimes keeps me from killing people! Kidding. Mostly.) It smells good and there is nothing quite as good to eat as fresh bread with butter. And that time when you pull the bread out of the oven. Thursday, Janu...

Flour Children: The Me I Am Becoming
http://flour-children.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-me-i-am-becoming.html
Saturday, December 29, 2012. The Me I Am Becoming. The person I am today barely recognizes the person I was at the. Beginning of this year. It's rare that I get the occasion to see. Myself with enough clarity, casting off the lens of self-criticism I. Typical view myself through, in order to see how much I have changed. One of my recurring prayers is that God will make me want to be. Obedient, and that he'll make me better. I tell myself at least once a. What to do and then act on it. I cannot tell y...
