A Family's Pilgrimage

Monday, January 30, 2012. The Twilight of Childhood. So far all of my favorite seasons in a child’s life are those moments leading up to a big transition. Like the moment before boys hit puberty: all sweetness and innocence, they don’t think it at all weird to play with action figures….until the monster hits. I don’t want to let him go. What will happen to our “invisible umbilical”? Rey, Elise, and Elijah. Wednesday, January 25, 2012. If anyone is still reading this, I apologize for the stillness of my b...

A Family's Pilgrimage: Holidays in Honduras

http://www.afamilyspilgrimage.blogspot.com/2012/01/holidays-in-honduras.html

Tuesday, January 24, 2012. December is a time for family and for graduations.and this year was extra special. We spent Thanksgiving in Washington with our friends and family, then came back to Tegucigalpa just in time for AFE's first-ever high school graduation! In a community with an average of only a third-grade education, nine bright young people are headed for college. There was a lot to be thankful for this year. AFE's 6th grade and kindergarten graduation. AFE's High School Graduation.

A Family's Pilgrimage: The North American's Guide to Semana Santa in Teguc

http://www.afamilyspilgrimage.blogspot.com/2011/04/north-americans-guide-to-semana-santa.html

Monday, April 25, 2011. The North American's Guide to Semana Santa in Teguc. The week leading up to “Pascua” is much different from the Easter I am accustomed to in the United States. To me, Easter meant decorating brightly colored eggs, buying new Easter clothes (the frillier the better), and then on Sunday morning attending a sunrise service among fragrant lilies with a Easter brunch following afterward. Check out Amapala. It’s not easy to get to the beach beach…You must park a ways awa...The best part...

http://www.afamilyspilgrimage.blogspot.com/2011/01/christmastime-and-giving.html

Monday, January 31, 2011. This Christmas Elijah would be three and was beginning to understand the concept of presents. We knew this because after his third birthday party he asked for “mas regalos? They don’t have any of those things. They don’t have any toys in their house. They don’t have a Christmas tree. They are not going to receive presents for Christmas. How about you give each of them one of your toys, since you have so many? Rey, Elise, and Elijah. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Every morn...

http://project-transformation.blogspot.com/2009/09/accepting-invitation.html

Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Monday, September 28, 2009. Last Weekend, 20 people accepted God's invitation. I was privileged to be part of the beautiful ceremony where these individuals made a public decalartion of their love for God. Please pray as God continues to amaze us. Posted by Rey and Elise Diaz. Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Wednesday, August 26, 2009. We knew that once we started, God would bring the right babies into our nursery. It did not take long for God to act. We have tripled in size and now have 6 beautiful babies. The 4 new babies are – Angel (11) months, Scarlet (5 years), Carlos (1 year), and Abigail (5 months). Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Friday, November 21, 2008. How do you indulgence yourself after a long day? Posted by Rey and Elise Diaz. Tuesday, November 11, 2008. I walked into the small, cardboard tent , which was created to be a refugee shelter, and pondered: how could this serve as better housing for anyone? In an hour I would find out. Of course she was sick. She lived in one of the crowded “shelters” that dotted the land. A couple of stick...The cardboard ref...

Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Monday, March 23, 2009. Bringing Peace to the Paz Family. Last week we checked in our first two babies: a brother and sister of a family involved with AFE. The “Paz” family is deeply entrenched in garbage dump life. Both parents work in the garbage; so does each of their children when they leave AFE’s doors: except for these two new inductees to the nursery. Posted by Rey and Elise Diaz. Sunday, March 15, 2009. Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Thursday, September 10, 2009. Yesterday, we celebrated the Day of the Child at the Presidential Palace with the President and First Lady of Honduras. It was an incredible blessing. Every news channel and newspaper was at the event hearing our story and our hope. Rene and Jocelyn sat in the Presidents desk! Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Thursday, July 9, 2009. In All Things God Works for the Good. Many times I have had the experience of chatting with my hair stylist and dentist about what I do only to encounter the response: “Honduras? I’ve never heard of that country before. Where is it located? How could God possibility use the corruption on both sides of the “democratic process” in Honduras to bring forth good? God can truly work good out of bad circumstances.

Bringing hope to the poorest of the poor, one garbage dump at a time. Saturday, February 28, 2009. The Miracle of Pollito. How long, little Pollito, will you grow up in garbage? Will you ever learn to play instead of lift heavy bags twice your size? For seven years, since AFE began, Pollito has been the subject of our hopes and prayers. Every time we encounter him, he promises to come to school the next day. But for seven years, the next day found him in the trash once more. Until last week. First Week o...

A Family's Life | It's a delicious adventure….

A Family's Life. It's a delicious adventure…. January 16, 2013. Like everyone else that I know, one of Seyfi and mine`s new years resolutions is to eat more healthy. It`s not that we have a very unhealthy diet, but we have days where we can get a bit lazy, and eat anything, not thinking about the health benefits of it. On this same track, we have decided that we should eat more vegetables, less meat, and try out as many new recipes as we can. Part of the new foods we have been eating is brussels sprouts.

Four months ago today Henry Harrison Light entered our lives. I can't believe it's been four months already. On the other hand, I can barely remember what life was like before he came into it. It's been such a joy getting to know him and sharing our lives with him. He said to Ryan as Phyllis helped me to get into the relaxation mode. What a jerk. At this point, they took me off of the pitocin. Yay! On the Launch Pad. And "how do I know I am in labor? And so I will approach today (and each new day that do...
