AFN Europe - On Base

American Military Radio in Central Europe. On Base, where only people with a pass could go. It was a priviledge to be allowed on base. I enjoyed it a lot, American military people are really good people. I flew in an ASK-13 glider with instructor. Watched American Football games, the home team was called the Soesterberg Falcons. Photographed the cheerleaders. Enjoyed the ribs at the BBQ stand and one time I made a couple of photos of F-15s flying at night. This is me in the blister the hangar of the ACvZ.

American Military Radio in Central Europe. This is about me. This is me, Aljo in 1988. The Americans saw this photo of me and dubbed me: 'Armchair-General'. Back in 1989 I walked often on Soesterberg AB, wearing a USS Ranger ballcap. President Bush had heard of me, and took a dog and called him Ranger. That was me! President Bush even said one time on CNN: "Ranger is a good dog! This is Aljo wearing his USS Ranger ballcap. This is President Bush Senior with his dog Ranger near the ocean.

When I got a pass to the base I regularly bought the Stars and Stripes military newspaper, this paper had a page dedicated to penpal requests. This way I found lots of interesting people to write with. This girl wrote me that her father had committed adultery and that she found this very wrong. I don't know her first name, I forgot. This is Elena from the Philippines. These girls wanted to call me collect, they never called me though.
