A Great Big Blessed Mess

Wednesday, December 7, 2011. A Very Footsy Christmas. A couple of years ago I posted about our Thanksgiving hand turkey tradition. We have done Christmas art projects here and there, but never quite found one that I wanted to make a yearly tradition . until this year! It was so much fun painting all of the kids' feet for this, and I was shocked how well each one of them did! Without further ado, our Christmas Feet! Abby and her big ole feet:. A Great Big Blessed Mess: The Great Chocolate Fiasco of 2011

http://agreatbigblessedmess.blogspot.com/2011/11/great-chocolate-fiasco-of-2011.html

Friday, November 25, 2011. The Great Chocolate Fiasco of 2011. One of the most comedic moments in my parenting career happened just the other day. Allow me to share the laughs with you:. Ahhhh," I thought, "everyone has been fed and attended to. This is the perfect time to go get the dishes unloaded and loaded.". Wow, that is great! I think to myself. "I really need to praise them for being so good and playing nicely together where they are supposed to be! WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT? Daniel wanted to make a p...

Monday, November 23, 2009. Making New Family Traditions. This year we decided we would start a new tradition for Thanksgiving and make a family hand turkey. We had so much fun working on this simple craft together, and the kids got a kick out of the fact that Daddy's hand barely fit on a piece of construction paper! O) I want to laminate it so that it will last through the years, and we hope to make one each year, showing how our family has grown - both individually and with each new little addition!

A Great Big Blessed Mess: December 2009

http://agreatbigblessedmess.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, December 2, 2009. So many times, when people find out that I am pregnant for the fourth time in four years - and that we don't plan on stopping at four - they will say things like, "I have my hands full with (one, two).I don't know how you will manage." I always wonder if they are really asking. I will manage, or. I will manage. If they are truly looking for the logistics, I'd be glad to spout them out. Yet something in their eyes makes me think that they are more curious as to. As I was tempt...

Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Five in a Row. No, no . I didn't switch our curriculum (although FIAR is awesome and I love to peruse their book lists! No, "Five in a Row" would be my nickname for our crew these days:. Aren't they too stinkin' cute? From L-R: Corbin (4.5 years), Samuel (20 mos.), Josiah (7 weeks), Abby (6 years), and Daniel (3 years). Oh, how I love those babies! Cutest 10 lbs. 12 oz. of chub you ever did see! Friday, November 11, 2011. An Inspired Little Boy. I have been working with Corbin on learning to read, and while it hasn't been unpleasant by any means, what he is learning hasn't been sticking as well as I would like it to. He is compliant and cheerful and cooperative during his lessons, but it just seems like he isn't really paying close enough attention to retain what we are doing. Just recently we have had several breakthroughs that have made me really hopeful that everything is about to change!

Little Literates: Book Review: The Help

http://mylittleliterates.blogspot.com/2011/11/book-review-help.html

Saturday, November 26, 2011. Book Review: The Help. I have heard so much about the movie based off of the book The Help,. By Kathryn Stockett. I am not a moviegoer, and definitely am not one to watch a movie before reading the book, so after hearing great reviews of the movie from several people whose judgment I trust, I decided it was time to see what the hoopla was all about. I purchased a copy and set it next to my nursing chair. Oh boy. I didn't know what I was getting into! I can't recommend The Help.

Sunday, November 13, 2011. Can you keep a secret? I'm going to give you a sneak peak under the comforter in the back of my closet and let you see what some of our Christmas presents will be! Good thing my kids don't know how to work the internet quite yet. :). This year, however, I realized that would be FIFTEEN new toys coming into our home just from our own gift-giving. That doesn't even count all of the extended family! Thus, the new Christmas gift guidelines:. One simple thing they need,. The awesome...

Little Literates: Five in a Row Goes to the Library

http://mylittleliterates.blogspot.com/2011/11/five-in-row-goes-to-library.html

Monday, November 14, 2011. Five in a Row Goes to the Library. Today we made our first very brave, very eventful trip to the library since Josiah was born. Mommy was very proud of her little clan, even if there were some disapproving stares from bystanders. The kids behaved very well - each according to their age and ability - all mature and respectful, so those who disapprove just because there are MORE of them are the ones with the problem! For Mom) Motivated Minds: Raising Children to Love Learning -.

Little Literates: November 2009

http://mylittleliterates.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, November 24, 2009. I am often times asked how it is that I "school" such young children. I get this frowning, skeptical look that implies that I must be some harsh over-achieving Mom, torturing my children with hours of lessons and drills. This is drastically far from the truth, and I want to share what homeschooling means at this stage in our family. It seems to be a common misconception that learning doesn't. Be learned by this age or that; but, on the contrary, is an exploration and experimen...
