Skip to primary content. Normal Heart vs. My Heart. Three days after being born a normal checkup from a nurse discovered a heart murmur. After notifying doctors and doing some test, it was discovered that I had a condition called Transposition of the great arteries. At 2 years old, I was admitted to the hospital in congestive heart failure, it was then that I was scheduled to undergo my first open heart surgery. On the day of my surgery, I was given a bath in a bathtub full of iodine then taken to surgery.
