Bostonian in NY: September 2009

Fourth year of medical school is supposed to be the promised land after years of slogging through the pre-reqs, the pre-clinicals and the core clinical rotations. My EM rotations over the summer were PHENOMENAL. And I will share my stories. When they're not subject to search and seizure by the programs that I've applied to.not that I'm paranoid much. However, Geri put the brakes on the momentum of the year, subsequently derailed by. I stuck out the rest of Geri without very much. Anyway, I'll continue my...

Now it's time to watch some TV and pack for the drive back to Massachusetts tomorrow.huzzah. Lappy is expired again.t-3 days until exam.FML. Looks like I'm sitting in the library for the next few days. I'm pretty sure that the poor innocent Dell tech support guys had no idea what to do with. 35 days left.AAAAAH. Time for a little thought experiment here folks:. Yeah, you remember the glory days when you qualified for the 1980 Olympic games in Greco-roman wrestling (but didn't go because of Regan) . You were an Engineer and that white coat wearing kid is talking down to you when he explains hypertension. You don't want to eat the low-fat, low-sodium diet ordered for you and send your tray back to the kitchen. It tastes like cardboard. That has to be wrong, get that out of your charts. Well, you might as well leav...

Reminders of that were everywhere:. 1) ERAS went active today. 2) My friends who are interns all had Facebook statuses with something like "I hope I don't kill anyone today.". 3) There were a couple blog posts about it.like here. Scaaaary stuff my friends, scary stuff. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Upstate, New York, United States. View my complete profile. Ten out of Ten (RIP).

Ah Yes, Residency: May 2008
http://ahyesresidency.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Ah Yes, Residency. Join me as I half-ass my way through residency, encountering all sorts of freaks (patients, residents, myself, etc.) along the way. Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Dancing With The Morons. The hospital, when flowing smoothly, is beautiful to watch. The elegance with which teams of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, techs, and other staff work together is something so remarkable, so coordinated, so intricate, that is so closely resemblesa dance. With apologies to the original Ickey Shuffle. You mus...

Bostonian in NY: Rollin
http://bostonianinny.blogspot.com/2010/06/rollin.html
After suffering through HOURSSSSSSSSSS of GME orientation and VA orientation over the past two days, jumping through the flaming rings of paperwork/med school/repetitive PPD tests I have some schwag that says Dr. Bostonian, MD and a matching prescription pad. Resident Anesthesiologist Guy (RAG). Good luck on your intern year. I remember it still - starting in the ED, July 1, scared outta my mind. I still pucker a bit when I think about it. Brief update and transitions. So where has this former blogging addict with an increasingly jaded streak disappear to for the past few months? 2 words: 4th year. I finally hit the sweet spot between matching and graduation where nothing mattered but enjoying the last few weeks of having absolutely no responsibilities. An epic 3 week trip to Utah for credit learning about wilderness medicine with awful views like this (Wasatch range):. And this (Desolation Canyon). As for the fate of this blog.who kno...

My buddy the heroin addict. We're standing on rounds and the resident presents the following patient that was admitted to our team over-night:. This is a good case, why don't you cover him Bostonian? I hate those words. "this is a good case". Usually means that the patient will have a mildly interesting work-up but is such a pain in the ass that the residents didn't want to deal with him. So this was pretty serious huh? I could have died from this, right? Hey, how old are you man? I'm glad ,. My school i...

Okit's been a month since the last post. Bad blogger.I know. And it's not for lack of things to write about, but for lack of any sort of desire to write them and a nasty case of acute "oh crap I'm going to be a doctor soon"itis. What you've missed while I was away:. Open your envelope.feeling the anticipation build, the hours of reading and studying and not sleeping and being made to do stupid things by obnoxious people. Breathe.open eyes and feel the weight of the past four years. Then there was the matt...
