Wednesday, February 28, 2007. The one featured below was the first of the two. At the very end Sue Ann and Nadeau sensei square off. Though aikido per se is not about fighting, I think you'll enjoy the choreography and the intensity of it. Nadeau sensei apparently directed and produced the whole thing and even selected the background music, co-ordinating action to passages in the music. Posted by jack wada at 11:00 AM. Tuesday, November 28, 2006. The workshop does raise a number of very important questions. What is aikido past the techniques? What is aikido past the social experience of the dojo? What is aikido past the running of a dojo? What is aikido past the political networking? What do instructors need to do to keep growing and evolving? Let's do some chambara(literally the outer showy level of martial arts). ("Tsumaranai ka? I am including a new video. I am attempting to use the spiral movements of the staff...

Friday, January 26, 2007. What could Albert Einstein have to do with aikido? 1 All I want to do is to think God’s thoughts. The rest are just details. Detail consciousness tends to keep us thinking and behaving like everybody else. God, representing the creative force and intelligence that created the universe, cannot be reduced to a mere detail. If Einstein could think like God, he would comprehend the workings of the universe from the standpoint of its source. What about ipods and lap top computers?

Wednesday, March 28, 2007. Switzerland, more Thor, and a special anniversary. I can afford the time(about 10 days late May to early June). However, it would be irresponsible to pay for it out of the dojo(even though it would be a legitimate aikido expense) because it would leave it with no cash reserves. So going is a process of putting it out there(yes, I’d like to go.) and at the same time coming up with how to get this done. Posted by jack wada at 2:09 PM. Wednesday, March 21, 2007. Thursday, August 31, 2006. The full moon cut and Aikido. I found this cut mesmerizing. It would be photographed slowly, and his sword would form a circle of strobe-like images. Beautiful, deadly, surreal. When I was much younger this had a very profound effect on me. It seemed to me that this cut was a dimensional gateway that put the character in some sort of "no time no space" place. And when I later got involved with Aikido, I wondered if there might be some connection. Ichikawa Raizo and Osensei share...

Thursday, September 28, 2006. Her Portrait in Black. This piece continues some of the themes in the earlier Metallica shoot. I’m using a longer(4’) staff, but one that is very light. The music is ‘Her Portrait in Black performed by Atreyu from the Underworld Evolution soundtrack. The song is about life and immortality. One questions whether or not they are synonomous. Is life without death really life? Is living forever really even desirable? Posted by jack wada at 3:58 PM. Posted by jack wada at 3:46 PM.
