TRIAL BY SUGAR: Coffee caramel crisps
http://trialbysugar.blogspot.com/2011/04/coffee-caramel-crisps.html
Friday, April 1, 2011. Before today, it had been about three months since I last baked. There was just no drive or interest until out of the blue, I felt the desire to make something easy and delicious. My only condition was that whatever I made had to use coffee (no idea why) so I found a recipe and modified it to fit my requirement. Here's a picture of the finished cookie:. And here's the recipe. Almonds, finely chopped. Sift flour. Mix in ground coffee beans and almonds. Set flour mixture aside. LATES...

TRIAL BY SUGAR: August 2010
http://trialbysugar.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 15, 2010. It's been a little over two months since my last post and the delay was due to a number of things including preparing to show my jewellery. At the Salmon Festival Craft Fair in Steveston on July 1st. And after the fair, I had to inventorize and make some new pieces to replace the ones that sold. Grated lime zest (approximately one lime). Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Set flour mixture aside. After the batter was fully prepared, it took on a much less yellow tone:. I prefer...

TRIAL BY SUGAR: May 2010
http://trialbysugar.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Friday, May 28, 2010. My very first post-class baking project involved making rose cupcakes. Again Since the recipe and process were exactly the same as last time, the only pictures I took of the preparation stage were of the egg whites. Here they are after about five seconds of beating:. These are the same egg whites once they were stiff:. Since I no longer had to use the icing recipe required for the class, I experimented with fresh strawberries and came up with my own:. Saturday, May 8, 2010. We learn...

TRIAL BY SUGAR: Honey cupcakes
http://trialbysugar.blogspot.com/2010/09/honey-cupcakes.html
Saturday, September 18, 2010. I was recently given a giant bottle of honey and I scratched my head for a while until it occurred to me that I could bake with it. Google revealed that honey cakes are a traditional Jewish holiday treat and there were raves for Canadian baker extraordinaire Marcy Goldman's Majestic and Moist Honey Cake. Soak dried blueberries in water until no longer hard, approximately an hour. Beat eggs with sugar. As I was pulling my ingredients together in the beginning, I remembered I ...

Saturday, January 1, 2011. It's a brand new year, but before I focus on January and my upcoming trip to Hawaii on the 12th, I want to post some pictures of a cake I made for the Christmas party at the fitness studio I go to. Rachel, the owner of Inner Fit Studios. Knew all about my cake decorating classes and has been incredibly supportive, so I offered to bake a cake for her party. This post will have pictures from the decorating process along with recipes for the individual parts under the links. The c...

http://trialbysugar.blogspot.com/2010_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 4, 2010. I came across a Martha Stewart recipe for chocolate crackles and thought they looked quite pretty so I decided to give them a try. However, I inadvertantly burned most of my chocolate and had to come up with a quick alternative since I only had a little bit of extra chocolate to spare. Here is my Plan B recipe along with photographs of what I ended up making (delicious! Stir instant coffee and 1/2 c cocoa powder in boiling water until smooth. Set aside. Alternatively adding the flou...
