The Baker's Roll: December 2014

Friday, December 19, 2014. Since moving to Marseille, Jared and I have joined a small but growing group of people who advocate for women and men who have been trafficked and/or are prostituted in Marseille. The core group has been visiting women and men on the streets and in "champagne" bars for years, and through their persistence and thick skin (because it isn't easy to gain access to these communities! The Baker's Roll: EuroRetreat

Thursday, November 13, 2014. We stayed in the tiny town of Bobbio Pellice, Italy, where there were definitely more cows than people. At one point, Jared just avoided driving the nine-passenger van that our team had taken from Marseille into a massive herd of cows that were being moved across (through) town in the dark during a bi-annual cow festival. Thank goodness for cowbells! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Subscribe to Our Quarterly E-Newsletter. View my complete profile.

The Baker's Roll: November 2014

Sunday, November 30, 2014. She was really excited to experience this classic American holiday and to see what it was all about. Though I haven't been around that long, I understand from others in Ruban Blanc that this particular bar has been very closed to our presence in the past, so it seems like a miracle to have come to the point of having a Thanksgiving meal there. Some of the built-in decor. Our intern, Shelby (right), and friend, Lara. The Gospel Choir, "Gospellement Vôtre". We stayed in the tiny ...

Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Friday was our last day at language school up in Angers. It was a great experience, and it definitely gave us a good foundation to keep improving in French. Jared is prepping to give his first sermon in French in two weeks. He couldn’t have done that four months ago! Last fête at Mission Langues. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). We returned to Mission Langues about a week ago and are still readjusting to the life/schedule here, but it is good to back in class and continuing to work on building our language skills. This will be our final session at Mission Langues so please keep praying for us as we wrap up here on August 15th. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, June 9, 2014. Lending God Our English. Recently, one of our classmates gave a homily during the Mass about the concept of sacrificing our mother tongue in service to God. This took me by surprise because I had never thought of learning another language in this way. We don’t give up our birth language in order to learn another one, do we? Can’t we just add one more language into the mix? Curious about the song? La Lettre" by Renan Luce:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Fedasi...

Wednesday, October 15, 2014. 1) I found kale. 2) It’s the same word in French as in English. 3) It's sold by the piece, so I don’t have to weigh it and get a barcode before checking out. Me: C’est par la piece, c’est €1.99 (this is sold by the piece, it’s €1.99). My Cashier: Oui, mais c’est quoi? Yes, but what is it? Me: C’est Kale. My Cashier: C’est quoi? Me: Kale. K – A –L –E. Despite telling him what Kale is and spelling it out, he proceeds to call to the cashier at the lane in front of him. Finally m...
