Captain Lionel Hicks RFC. Lionel Hicks travelled from Argentina as a volunteer to join the British Army during the First World War. He was accepted for the Royal Flying Corps on passing his Royal Aeronautical Club certificate (no. 2126) on 2 December 1915. This is the story of Captain William Thomas Lloyd Allcock's service in the Royal Flying Corps based on his diary and other background material. Following flying training at Hendon and then in the RFC at CFS he served in No.s 2, 16, 46 and 40 Squadrons before being posted missing on 5 June 1917. No 103 Squadron RFC/RAF 1917-18. No 103 Squadron was formed on 1 September 1917 at Beaulieu in Hampshire from a nucleus of No 16 Training Squadron. A week later they moved to Old Sarum in Wiltshire where they worked up and prepared for deployment to France. The Squadron was equipped initially with a variety of aircraft before finally receiving DH9 bombers in March 1918. On 12 May 1918 the Squadron moved to France under command of Major E N. Flight Commander Charles Edmonds succeeded in sinking a Turkish ship all on his own today. He approached the port of Ak Bashi Liman where he spotted three steamers bringing in supplies for the defence of Suvla Bay. He released the torpedo from fifteen to twenty feet, and at about 800 yards’ range. He hit the middle of the three steamers, which was set on fire. August 17, 2015.
