Road legal again …. finally! I’d been lucky to have an opportunity to drive an unmolested E-Type while on my recent travels ( Sydney in an E-Type. And wanted to return the favour when the Christopher was next back in the UK. Not least because he would be able to give valuable feedback, good or bad, on how the two cars compare. Crossing the Sydney bridge in an E. Christopher’s original S2 FHC. Christopher’s visit coincided with the car’s trip up to the trimmers to fit the hood. It had been...This would ha...

Starting the hood refurbushment. Trim and Body Fittings. New hood pivot bolts. However the problem wasn’t that the threaded sections had seized within the bracket’s captive nuts as I had thought. Small holes are provided in hood sticks for oiling the pivot joints. Unfortunately it’s doubtful they had ever been troubled during routing maintenance! The remaining sections of the bolts wouldn’t budge even after soaking in Plus Gas penetrating fluid for several weeks, applying heat, attempting to press ...

Bleeding the bleeding brakes! Clutch and Brake Hydraulics. Fuel Line and Hydraulics. The brakes have been connected and plumbed in for quite a while now. The system only had to be filled with brake fluid and bled, so I had assumed the brakes were essentially complete and wouldn’t be noteworthy. I should have known by now that was almost certainly going to be wildly optimistic …. DOT5 Silicone Brake Fluid. However some have raised concerns that silicone fluid might cause rubber seals to swell. Possibl...

Chris | Restoration of NNF 10H

A work colleague is a member of the Goodwood Road Racing Club and suggested I should take my car down to one of their Breakfast Club. Meetings. They’re held throughout the summer months, excluding the periods around the Festival of Speed and The Revival, with each having a different theme. Plenty of E-Types where on show. Plus a variety of other classics. New v old extinguishers. One of the garages in the pits was taken up by Fire Tools UK. I’d been carrying a 1 Kg powder extinguisher until now but...

Clutch slave cylinder revisited. Clutch and Brake Hydraulics. Fuel Line and Hydraulics. Jaguar made several changes to the clutch slave cylinder during the production of the E-Type which appear to have caused a fair amount of confusion amongst owners, myself included. The slave cylinder details from the Jaguar literature are:. S1 to engine 7E4606 – short 80mm adjustable cylinder (part C21470). S1 from engine 7E4607 – 95mm hydrostatic self-adjusting cylinder (part C24145). It wasn’t until another S2...

The list of tasks below charts the planned order and progress of the rebuild, with links to the associated blog entries. Hopefully it will mean I will only need to fit components once however, as this is my first rebuild, oversights, errors and delays in some tasks are bound to occur. Assortment of unrelated posts. Jenga and the lowering of the bodyshell. Bulkhead Fixtures – Internal. Heater and vacuum pipes. Wiper Rack and Motor. Fuel Line and Hydraulics. Straightening fuel and brake pipe kits.

Also several from the forum point out that an upgrade often compromises another aspect of the car. I think ‘changed’ is often more appropriate than ‘upgraded’. So, for now, I’m limiting my deviations from standard spec largely to cosmetic or subtle changes that do not affect the original driving experience:. Convert existing fuel pump to electronic actuation – purely for improved reliability. Halogen Headlights – for safety. LED dash illumination – admittedly an indulgence. The heating insulation is anot...

Tracing the history of NNF 10H. The first task was to obtain a heritage certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. Which contains details from the original hand-written records taken by Jaguar during the production of the vehicle. The purpose was mainly to confirm the original numbers for the body, engine, gearbox etc but it also includes other useful information such the selling dealer, first keeper and colour scheme.
