Akin Akintayo: March 2015
http://www.akinblog.nl/2015_03_01_archive.html
Read My Blog Themes. Comment advisory and guidelines. Tuesday, 31 March 2015. Essential Snobbery 101: How not to seek advice. The conversation I relay below left me wondering about where things might have gone so horribly wrong in our society that we are bringing up such uncultured children. Can I have some advice? I first checked if this was the continuation of an old conversation, because it was almost too familiar, it was not, before I responded.]. I don’t think so. The thanks at the end here is not s...

Erm, I’m an Englishman. 8220;Honesty is the best policy,” he told me as he came to chat to me about how much I liked my food. I had the prompt excuse of being an Englishman to be a little circumspect about my sometimes strong opinions. Like local is good. Akin Akintayo: Thought Picnic: Bring me joy
http://www.akinblog.nl/2015/05/thought-picnic-bring-me-joy.html
Read My Blog Themes. Comment advisory and guidelines. Friday, 1 May 2015. Thought Picnic: Bring me joy. Over the past few weeks, it is the encouragement of friends, relations and colleagues that has kept me going when it all seemed everyone of importance around me was going into hospital for one thing or the other. I have found that it is really important to talk rather than bottle all the information up, especially when the news received is serious and troubling. I get lonely sometimes. I have an import...
Akin Akintayo: Travel: Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika - Back in Africa after 25 years
http://www.akinblog.nl/2015/05/travel-nkosi-sikelel-iafrika-back-in.html
Read My Blog Themes. Comment advisory and guidelines. Sunday, 3 May 2015. Travel: Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika - Back in Africa after 25 years. Let’s start with the end of the story. I arrived safely in Johannesburg, South Africa. After a trip that took a total of 18 hours and 35 minutes. Passport control was easy, I picked up my baggage that kept up with me this throughout my journey with two transit points and the hotel had sent a chauffeur to pick me up. A plane not so plain. A glass and a class apart.

Things I Feel Strongly About: October 2013
http://thingsifeelstronglyabout.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Things I Feel Strongly About. Wednesday, 9 October 2013. Too rich for its own good. This very interesting piece. On the BBC News website caught my attention -. The Democratic Republic of Congo is potentially one of the richest countries on earth, but colonialism, slavery and corruption have turned it into one of the poorest, historian Dan Snow writes. The world's bloodiest conflict since World War II is still rumbling on today. I met rape victims, rebels, bloated politicians and haunted citizens of a cou...

Things I Feel Strongly About. Monday, 18 March 2013. The real story of Nigeria 2. Saturday, 9 March 2013. The real story of Nigeria. A valuable record of Nigeria's political history, good mainly for its factual accuracy, but perhaps less so for some judgements made by the film's maker. Nevertheless, this film is definitely worth watching and I was transfixed for the hour and a half it took to watch it from start to finish. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Things I Feel Strongly About. Sunday, 18 May 2014. The South Rift Valley, Bomet, Narok, Masai Mara, more. and Naivasha (2). There was also to be seen the occasional European-style farmstead, but these were far outnumbered by those farms that clearly were owned and run by the indigenous people. A few hours of this and then we reached the outskirts of the town of Narok. A mostly Masai town that is a major staging point for trips to the famous Masai Mara National Reserve. And the Ngorongoro Crater. 8220;Tru...

Born in America.heart in Nigeria.producing thoughts in the blogosphere like pure water. I hate cigarettes and the tobacco industry as much as the next non-smoker - however, I am concerned about recent talks to urge the FDA to ban mentholated cigarettes exclusively. The link is a year old, but for some reason, a number of articles have come out from American Journal of Public Health this month and last about menthols). But more importantly, a conversation about banning menthol cigarettes without a discuss...

Things I Feel Strongly About. Wednesday, 30 April 2014. The South Rift Valley, Bomet, Narok, Masai Mara, more. and Naivasha (1). The journey to Nairobi had itself not been without its difficulties, what with a sleepless twelve-hour stopover at Amsterdam Airport. But I thought of this only as a minor discomfort, for in my mind I was undertaking a voyage of discovery. The hope was that an annoyance such as this one would be more than made up for in the end. The aim here is to attempt to discuss, as closely...
