Following successful experiments proving the worth of red iron ore at Tannehill renewed emphasis was placed on opening furnaces along Red Mountain near present day Birmingham. The plant remained in wrecked condition until, with financial support from industrialist Daniel Pratt, was rebuilt and enlarged in 1873. Both the original stack and the one.
