Bicycles and Icicles: January 2013

http://alaskabikeblog.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

A blog about riding bikes in Alaska. Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Ridin' my (temporarily mine, anyway) 29er on Trail 100 in Phoenix. OK, I’m convinced. Pass me the Kool-Aid, and I’ll drink it. I was reminded of what my friend Julie wrote a couple of years ago after riding big wheels during a trip back east . It’s like cheating. Fortunately, I have the rest of a long winter to figure this shit out and get a new bike together, regardless of which brand and model it turns out to be. Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

Bicycles and Icicles: Thanks

http://alaskabikeblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/thanks.html

A blog about riding bikes in Alaska. Monday, July 15, 2013. Ken and Julie rock the SAG wagon. The Fireweed 200 ain't easy. Rough pavement and hard climbs beat up your body. Brutal headwinds punish your muscles and. Your morale. Huge, nasty, wheel-grabbing cracks in the asphalt never let you relax. But a good crew can keep you going with calories, electrolytes, painkillers and encouraging humor. Saturday was a damn hard day. These two are a big reason Heather and I got through the longest ride of our ...

Bicycles and Icicles: July 2013

http://alaskabikeblog.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

A blog about riding bikes in Alaska. Monday, July 29, 2013. From Paris with love. Just when this ol' blog was dying on the vine because we're having a killer summer and I've been too busy riding to screw around on my laptop, we have a new submission to the Fabulous Finger Gallery. And it comes from Oscar the Grouch, who was recently in "gay Pair-ee.". I felt a little tear in my eye. Right back atchya with a wink, Big Fella! Thursday, July 18, 2013. 90 percent mental, half physical. Now that a few days&#8...

Bicycles and Icicles: On the road again

http://alaskabikeblog.blogspot.com/2013/07/on-road-again.html

A blog about riding bikes in Alaska. Thursday, July 11, 2013. On the road again. It's time to do this thing. Road bikes have been devouring the summer while my Fireweed partner Heather and I have prepared for the 200-mile event this Saturday. But the training rides are done and it's time to git down to bidness. There are two things I expect in this ride: Good times, and bad times. And as my ultra-distance-freak friend Leonard. See you in Valdez, muthafuckas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Lessons fr...

bike wrider: September 2012

http://bikewrider.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Wednesday, September 26, 2012. I headed out to do some science today. My commute to the research site follows a glacier fed lake for the first eight miles. Between record snowfall last winter and a healthy amount of precipitation this summer it's been a big water year and the lake is getting too big for its britches. Their are (normally) two roughly parallel, occasionally intersecting, trails along the lake. One for ATVs and one for non-motorized users. Pretty cool if you ask me. Bankfull and Then Some.

Exploring The Open Road: Look at me!

http://exploringtheopenroad.blogspot.com/2012/11/look-at-me.html

Sunday, November 11, 2012. Here's a picture of the painting in progress. And this is the bike completed. It's not as bright as I hoped it would be but if it helps me to be more visible, it's worth it. Plus the extra coats of paint can't hurt to protect it for winter. I'm almost ready for winter. I haven't put my studded tires on yet because I'm anticipating the snow to melt off the roads tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, bring it on! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Exploring The Open Road: May 2012

Friday, May 18, 2012. Bike to Work Day. Last week I offered to host a noon ride on Bike to Work Day to anyone interested. I received no responses except from one of my firms principals, Mike, a lean, mean, Iron Man competing machine, and he wanted to do a ride to Pryor Creek and back, some 26 miles. What on earth am I doing? I offered so I just had to suck it up and endure the punishment. I am way out of my league here! Sunday, May 13, 2012. I believe this is called Ghost Cave. I received Rasta last week from Canine Companions for Independence. We have been very busy in training, learning everything there is to learn about taking care of each other, and finally, getting her back to Alaska. I am going to add Rasta to the website now, as she has become a “Wandering Alaskan” Rasta says “woof”! Rasta is the name of my new hearing dog.

Cookies and Catwalks: March 2013

http://cookiescatwalks.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 23, 2013. Wow, I've missed this. It's been so long since I've posted an entry. I'm on the computer so much for work that when the day is over, the last thing I want to do is stare at a computer screen. Unfortunately, this has led me to abandon my blog and other creative projects that I really do enjoy. It's nice to know they're still here waiting for me when I feel compelled or inspired to do so. I also prefer this to all other meatloaf recipes I've cooked with in the past. 1 tsp ground b...
