Housesitting Perks – A Room with a View | Alaskan RED
https://alaskanred.wordpress.com/2016/10/03/housesitting-perks-a-room-with-a-view
A lifelong Alaskan learning about the world one backroad at a time. Housesitting Perks – A Room with a View. October 3, 2016. It also comes with a lovely lagoon front property which is just two blocks off the ocean and huge windows to immerse yourself in the view. This momma and her fawns were usually found lunching across the street and paid no attention when we stopped the truck for a picture. On this day, he was having a bad feather day! But he managed to get them under control. Click to share on Tumb...

A lifelong Alaskan learning about the world one backroad at a time. December 3, 2016. The Day We Saw the Cherries. I’ve said it before but it bears repeating as an Alaska girl, nothing impresses me more than seeing where food, produce specifically, comes from. In Juneau, with the exception of fresh seafood, most of our food is barged or flown in. Lately, there is more interest in vegetable gardening to supplement the veggies we can buy at the store, at least during our short growing season. Cherries are ...

A lifelong Alaskan learning about the world one backroad at a time. Klondike Highway – A Surprise at the Robinson Flag Stop. September 16, 2016. Inevitably on our roadtrips, we make our first stop not long after we’ve gotten underway a symptom of drinking lots of water and coffee while we are packing up the truck to head out! There are some great signs about the history of the area and I walked slowly along reading each of them. There is also a lot of discarded stuff, various remnants of the flag sta...

A lifelong Alaskan learning about the world one backroad at a time. Adventures in Housesitting – South Whidbey Island. January 17, 2016. When I got the acceptance from the homeowners, we did a little celebration dance (thank goodness no one was watching that! And called Dad to let him know we were coming. Despite the fact that we’ve already done this, he asked the same question so you don’t know these people? Another day found us revisiting Ebey’s Landing. You can also make a loop of both the bluff and t...

Linda's Window: April 2015
http://lindaswindow.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
The best things in life . . . aren't things! Monday, April 13, 2015. Weekend Get-Away - New Braunfels, Texas. We got to New Braunfels a little bit earlier than our reservation, so we strolled down the street and went into a couple of the interesting shops. One was a quilting shop, and the other a leather shop. Both of them gave us free "gifts" - some fabric squares at the quilting place, and two leather key fobs in the shape of the state of Texas at the leather store. Roast of pork) served with spaetzle.

The best things in life . . . aren't things! Friday, March 27, 2015. Mom's Cranberry Orange Scones. Here is the recipe for the scones that Mom loved to bake and give away. She even baked a couple batches at my house, not long ago, and shared them with her Stoney Brook friends. 2 cups all-purpose flour. 3 tsp baking powder. 1/2 cup cold butter. 3/4 cup (more or less) cranberries. 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional). Zest from one orange. 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (I think Mom just used whole milk). Marga...

The best things in life . . . aren't things! Saturday, June 27, 2015. Pictures (by Kelsey) from Our Houston Visit. Anyway, now that Kelsey has posted some pictures on her blog, I was able to "steal" a few to display here:. Clara, the Spring Fairy, during her song/dance number. Clara is holding the giant "J" (for Judd) made out of Legos. Chris and the kids are Lego-maniacs (my terminology) and this cute Father's Day gift will hang on the wall in their game room. The best things in life . . . aren't things! Thursday, October 30, 2014. Settled In Before the Holidays. It was the middle of July - three and a half months ago - that Mom made her move from New Mexico to Texas. It's been a long and twisty road getting her completely settled into her new home at Stoney Brook. But it's finally a done deal. Links to this post. Friday, October 17, 2014. Mother Neff State Park. Dan and I drove out to Mother Neff State Park this morning. It only takes a half hour, or less, to get there from our house. We wanted to scope it out for Chris and Kelsey, since they love camping in the various Texas State parks, and haven't been to this one yet. Links to this post.

The best things in life . . . aren't things! Thursday, August 21, 2014. How NOT to Move to the Front of the Line. Mom has been here the required 30 days, and we had all of her paperwork in place to get her Texas ID. She's been waiting for this day, because she couldn't even open a bank account without ID, and she had let her NM drivers license expire before she moved. The DPS opens at 8:00 am, so I suggested that we get there by 7:30 so we could be in the front of the line. Silly me! Links to this post.

The best things in life . . . aren't things! Thursday, May 28, 2015. So, not being able to travel to see the kids and grandkids has been a real downer. Two big occasions passed by without us being there. Clara, who is just finishing up her third grade year, took second place in her school's science fair. She was competing against fourth and fifth graders, so we are really proud of her accomplishment. Links to this post. Monday, May 11, 2015. Linda's Window: Mother's Day
http://lindaswindow.blogspot.com/2015/05/mothers-day.html
The best things in life . . . aren't things! Monday, May 11, 2015. To tell the truth, I wasn't looking forward to Mother's Day this year. For one thing, I'm still recuperating from surgery. But more importantly, it was my first Mother's Day without my mom, so there would be a mom-sized hole in a day that should be all about her. Next to him was Clara, holding a big bouquet of flowers. And, of course, Chris and Kelsey. What a wonderful surprise! That was a wonderful surprise for you! All Things Judd All J...

The best things in life . . . aren't things! Friday, January 30, 2015. Clara and the Oral Surgeon. Pre-surgery. (Picture swiped from Kelsey's blog. Yesterday she went in for oral surgery to remove that pesky extra tooth and open up some "windows" in her gums to encourage the other teeth to make their appearances. There's no doubt that she'll also need braces, once the teeth all emerge. Post-surgery (This one also swiped from Kelsey.). Links to this post. Happy Birthweek to Me :-). I told him that this bi...

The Redford family adventure in Alaska. March 20, 2015. Froze My Ice Off. Alaska had a cold front move in just in time for spring break. The high was in the teens all week in Anchorage so what better way to escape slightly-above zero temperatures than to head north to Fairbanks to enjoy some negative double digit temperatures. The 6.5 hour drive to Fairbanks is spectacular! The road took us through Denali State Park and Denali National Park and Preserve. Cool little ice cup that spins around! We drove ba...
