luddite online: Ringing the Changes
http://aludditeonline.blogspot.com/2008/05/ringing-changes.html
Friday, 2 May 2008. I had read about the complexities of change-ringing, and had seen it in action! Watching the five expert ringers weave their pentamenter verse in the rhythmic movements which controlled the bells, was spellbinding. The measure changed as the conductor called out which ringers would change places in the ringing cycle, yet no-one flinched, stopped or jarred. Bell-ringing has its own ancient, fluid choreography.(These ringers are from Lincoln Cathedral.). In method or scientific ringing ...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Thursday, May 10, 2007. Friday in Edinburgh in which we . Revisit St. Giles. Enjoy lunch al fresco. And wander the darkened streets. Guess the mystery food to the right for bonus points! We get seats and it is slightly less freezing inside. You can see the glow from what I think might be a heater there on the right. This is the first time that we have had to wait for a train, but at least ...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Monday, April 28, 2008. A lovely Tuesday evening: the perfect end to a perfect day. We have had quite the day. We started out wandering through the ancient heart of legal London and have ended up at a world famous Cathedral. That first church was destroyed by fire and rebuilt by St. Erkenwald, then bishop, in 675-85. Fire was not the only danger faced by buildings in those dark cen...In th...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Monday, May 26, 2008. Thursday: Parte the Second. What else we saw that day . We have just finished lunch (yummy! We are to get off at the same station that we did on our Legal London tour. This is one of the buildings across the street from the station. I love the red sandstone bricks. Which is very, very old. I am quoting heavily from the website here . But amid the clamour of mammon, th...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Monday, August 11, 2008. A Coolish Morning in Edinburgh. We got up relatively early and made our way down to breakfast. This is a view of the inside of the teeny little elevator. I am not sure exactly why I would need to take a little rest on the 7 second trip, but . it is good to know that there is a foldy-down seat if you need one. I survey the smorgasbord of proscribed fried fare, which...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Monday, September 29, 2008. Forging up the hill to the Castle and Down the Royal Mile. We emerge from St. John's into the cold, clear sunlight. We are going around on the hillier side of the park - a way Rowan and I have not yet been. So, these are the views of the graveyard as we leave the church. And a stone carving that I liked. It isn't really alien technology - it is a Farmer's Market!

Saturday, 10 May 2008. A Chattering of Teeth. But somehow.she has. The offspring took this well. She has an ongoing correspondence with the Tooth-Fairy, and trusts that she will deliver. She has even discussed the pink curly-fonted rose-emoticonned emails, posing as IOU's, with spellbound classmates. The Tooth fairy is a pragmatic girl. She is an edgy lass who is a sort of rebel at the gates of dawn. she is Boudica in her chariot, with espadrilles ( the original kind with. This is what she wrote:. It was...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Monday, February 26, 2007. Walking in the Streets of Edinburgh in the Evening. Tuesday in Edinburgh:Part Three. A Walk in the Dark. I take a quick picture up Lothian Road and then. Rowan and I head back up Princes Street, going back to the station to collect our bags. At the station, I stop at the ATM. It is a bit of a pain, and I soon stop looking for them. The Scottish bank notes are gre...

Stravaigin Aboot . and Misbehavering. Stra'vegɪn] (Scots): wandering without aim. He:vər] (Scots): to talk nonsense. Thursday, March 15, 2007. Wednesday in Edinburgh - the Gallery and Castle. We hit the National Gallery. And have a capital time. We get up early in the morning and I use the hot towels from the hot towel rack. The towels are not toasty - not freezing, but not toasty - and I am not exactly sure what the fuss is about. We get up and out of the room, quickly repacking our stuff. Minced beef t...
