Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Tuesday, 30 April 2013. Off Island' - pt 1. I had a few hours 'spare' this morning (17th April) so decided to take a look at the blog and do an update. Checking the date I discovered that I've now been away from home for 3 weeks and what a busy three weeks it has been. Which is always a hit with all of us, more of that later, we also went to Marwell Zoo which has so much there one day doesn't do it justice. We left in plenty of time ...

http://robbiesnorthernexposures.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Thursday, 17 July 2014. Gannets Galore - Part 1. The 1st visit this year was on 19th Feb and already there were lots of birds on the cliffs; that said, I took a visit a week later and some areas were devoid of birds. The Neap 19th Feb 2014. Returning again around a week later, there was a lot more activity and this was to only increase as the weeks went by. Looking north towards Clingra Stack (centre top). Gannets over 'The Greing'.

http://robbiesnorthernexposures.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Monday, 17 June 2013. On the 5th May, my first Arctic Tern of the year returned to the shore at Ordaal and was a really welcome sight and gave the feeling that spring had finally returned. For a few days after the 7th, we had up to four Tree Sparrows in the garden daily - which made a nice change to the ever present House Sparrows. Common Sandpiper at Skaw. Grey-headed Wagtail at Skaw. Marsh Warbler at Skaw. Probably the best Spring ...

Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Sunday, 11 May 2014. Our Easter holiday this year was going to be a return trip to North Zealand, Denmark to the farm owned by Catriona's step-sister, Selma. It's been around ten years since I last visited and were going to stay there for almost two weeks from the end of March. Close to the rear port side of the ship. And its Viking museum, Legoland and Tivoli Gardens amongst others. Below are a few pictures from our trips out. In 20...

Robbie's Northern Exposures: November 2013
http://robbiesnorthernexposures.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Sunday, 17 November 2013. Firstly on the Friday he found a Black-bellied Dipper (the continental race of the British one) over near Woodwick and the following day, he found a Paddyfield Warbler at Skaw - what else is going to turn up I wonder? The Skaw of the south. However, if you look in the opposite direction. As to the last picture, I reckon we (as a nation) have become over protected by the health and safety 'police'! A few days...

Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Thursday, 16 May 2013. Off Island' pt 2. On the 6th April, we continued our extended trip 'off island' to stay in north Gloucestershire; Catriona and Sula staying at Moreton and Rona and I staying at Longbrough for most of the time - with Catriona taking trips to Oxford and London in between. A couple of days later, Rona and I took the almost obligatory trip to the Cotswold Falconry Centre. One of my favourite birds from Batsford.

http://robbiesnorthernexposures.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Saturday, 22 February 2014. Wild seas and Auroras. Yet another month or so between blogs, it's simply not good enough! Folk the idea of maybe tackling a job which they aren't either qualified or skilled enough to do but think they are. Despite all of the bodges done here by 'clever fools', I wouldn't swap it for anywhere else. The road at the south end of Haroldswick. Lamba Ness from Norwick. Lamba Ness from the old road above Norwick.

Robbie's Northern Exposures: September 2013
http://robbiesnorthernexposures.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wildlife, Images and Blog from 60 degrees North and the Island of Unst. Thursday, 19 September 2013. Parking the car half way along the old road to Lamba Ness, the sight that greeted me as I approached the cliff edge was quite jaw dropping (and a couple of expletives! In the picture above, there are lots of black 'squiggles' on the water, many of these are distorted reflections of other Gannets overhead. This link here. Is a short 1 minute handheld video of some. Well today (19th Sept), the family arrive...
