Dividing her time between her two careers as a glass engraver and a professional Scottish harp player, she was recognised for her contribution to artistic and musical spheres in 1997 when awarded an MBE, and has continued to collect awards and accolades - most recently the Creative Scotland award in 2002.

Alison Kinnaird is one of seventy two artists selected for the British Glass Biennale 2015. This is the landmark overview of contemporary British Glass, and take place between 28th May-28th June 2015, in the Ruskin Glass Centre, Stourbridge. Alison Kinnaird's piece is 'Threshold', a group of five doorways, each 40cm H x 26cm W x 15 D. Optical glass, cast glass, Caithness stone, LED lighting with wheel and sandblast engraving. Is recognised as one of the foremost exponents of traditional Scottish harp music. Alison's first instrument was cello and she was a founder member of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra. She has a degree in Celtic Studies and Archaeology and studied the harp under Jean Campbell in Edinburgh from the age of 14. She has won the Clarsach Trophy at the National Mod and the Harp Competition in Pan Celtic Festival in Killarney. Her album The Harp Key - Crann nan Teud.

Glass is a seductively beautiful medium. It has a more versatile nature than any other material. It can be made to resemble stone, water or metal, ceramic, gems or textiles. It can be solid or liquid, transparent or obscure, smooth or textured, heavy or apparently weightless. But it is in partnership with light that glass comes alive.
