Creativity. We all use it, although we may not think about it consciously. Sure, artists and writers use it more than most, but it's not just for them. Innovators, entrepreneurs, problem solvers, parents. All require a bit of creativity: the ability to look at a situation from a different perspective and see it with new eyes. Evelyn B. Christensen, author of educational puzzle books. Michael Grant, [immortal] computer mathematics researcher. Maureen Crisp, children's author and teacher.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012. Looking for a few good teachers! Want to get your students out of the classroom? Connect them with the critters in their own neighborhood? Give them the tools they need to work toward positive change? All while working toward meeting National Science Education Standards? I'm looking for a few adventurous elementary/middle school teachers who would like to incorporate some hands-on, inquiry-based activities into their classroom curriculum. Tuesday, November 12, 2013. I was planning to post about something else, but that has to take a backseat to the exciting launch of this Kickstarter campaign. By my dear friend and critique partner, Julie Hedlund. Julie is an extremely talented writer, creator of award-winning storybook apps, and is now developing a hybrid publishing model for her newest book, My Love For You is the Sun. As I said, she's talented.). My Love For You is the Sun. I, for one, can't wait to have the book in my hands. Thanks Do...

Monday, May 6, 2013. Putting threats in perspective. Recently, I got a letter from a lawn care company with "TREAT LAWN THREATS NOW! Splashed across the front of the envelope. It gave my husband and me a good laugh. Actually, it was more frustrating than anything else. When it arrived, I had just wrapped up an article on the hygiene hypothesis- the idea that our lives are excessively clean, a lifestyle that is thought to have given rise to an increase in health problems, including asthma and allergies.

Alison Pearce Stevens: January 2013

http://alisonstevens.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 28, 2013. I just placed an order for 100 trees and shrubs. Keep in mind that I don't live out in the country, not even on a small acreage. I'm working to create a place that will keep them, my husband, me- even that neighbor- healthy. Because when trees die, so do people. We need nature, and we are ...

Thursday, March 31, 2011. Gearing up for A-Z. I am one of the nearly 900 brave souls who have signed up for the A-Z April Blog Challenge. Hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh. During the month of April participants are to post daily except for Sunday, subjects progressing through the alphabet, starting on April 1st with A. But I do envy people who have the time and gumption to be that organized. It might be a nice change of pace. Thankfully, these posts are supposed to be short in order to facilitate quick readin...

Just another WordPress.com site. That Voice →. Unconditional love and quarters. May 6, 2014. Oh how very, very, very wrong I was. Instead, I learned the true meaning of unconditional love from my students. In order to be a good teacher, you need to be a student of human nature. And you need to have a powerful love of, if not fascination with, youth. If not, why spend 6 hours a day trapped in a small room with lots of them? View all posts by Adrienne Gilby →. Alison moved from southern California to New York City to study music at City College. It was there that John Lewis, of the Modern Jazz Quartet, and a professor of jazz improvisation, was prompted to remark that she was "one of the most promising young artists I have encountered in recent years.". She augmented her studies performing in local jazz clubs and found respect and praise from the master's she sat in with, from Hank Jones to Frank Foster.
