Time to Listen

Saturday, April 20, 2013. The mind is such a vast concept, especially as I've been told I have the mind of Jesus. Well not just me. A whole bunch of us have it and the taste of bread and wine fires thoughts of forgiveness and seventy times seven chances. I'm starting with what I can see and hear and touch, because input is where we begin to interpret and convince ourselves that we understand. It's unlikely we fully do. You're right. It barely matters. Predictably, I'll try. This is a blog, after all.

Time to Listen: August 2012

http://alisteningspace.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Blangst, navel-gazing, call it what you will. In blogging, I'd rather be artless, than artful. I'm not a writer and I struggle with self-revelation. I'm naturally a listener and the contents of my heart stick in my throat. There's a few difficult spots. I don't do advice - I find it hard to look at my life and tell you what you should do with yours. I don't do design or fantastic images or cool stuff. I am extremely un-hip. I am everything Frankie magazine is not. I ...I love to...

Time to Listen: The Gift

http://alisteningspace.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-gift.html

Tuesday, December 25, 2012. At my most cynical, it's the shopping that saps me. I don't mind browsing, but choosing is agonising, and any time spent at the shops in December is uncomfortable. I care too much about buying the present that will delight. Family and giving and having my cooking on show lays me bare. I see my dependence on praise from others, my fear of disappointing, my pride. The gift I need is grace. We cling to these Christmas rituals, don't we? It's such a time for love and acceptance&#4...

Time to Listen: The Boss

http://alisteningspace.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-boss.html

Thursday, March 21, 2013. I got married fifteen years later and we laughed over identical copies of. Ghost of Tom Joad. We lay on the ugly blue carpet, smiling at the ceiling, and talking Springsteen. He's an ideal hero, because I can read my own emotion and passion into him. We spend a lot of time tut-tutting at foolish or ridiculous famous people. The ones that would just be embarrasing or shameful, if we didn't all know their names. But here's to the regular famous people. The ones who per...Ill never...

Time to Listen: Colin Hay

http://alisteningspace.blogspot.com/2013/02/colin-hay.html

Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Colin Hay is a very funny man. He's a musician, who plays guitar, writes spare, honest lyrics and peppers his time at the microphone with hilarious anecdotes. We've been to his shows twice and he has a way of drawing you into his stories. He talked about becoming an alcoholic, and trying to stop drinking. He found it hard to stop here in Australia, because no one wanted to agree that he was drinking too much. Perhaps it was too confronting to their own alcohol intake&#...I lov...

Time to Listen: October 2012

http://alisteningspace.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 21, 2012. There are words made specially for theology textbooks. People polish them and bring them out on silver platters for special occasions - when they want to look smart in a debate or prove they know lots of stuff. Then there was the time someone talked about courage and introduced me to. I've read the story of David and Goliath. Before. I've taught it in Sunday School. I've heard other sermons on it. You probably know it, too. Consider who you identify with in the story. I am the c...

Circumstantial: Responding to questions

http://circumstantially.blogspot.com/2010/12/responding-to-questions.html

Incidental thoughts about life in psychiatry. Monday, December 6, 2010. I am going to post a series prompted by the questions and statements I hear, mainly at work, but some will be interesting ones I hear in other places. The thread of similarity will be the ideas about mental health that each prompt raises. There will be post here, from a psychiatric perspective and a linked post on my personal blog. Which will be framed more, (need I say), personally. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Incidental thoughts about life in psychiatry. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Skills in Psychiatry #1. Learn how to do it or get a very sore head. Whether it's getting a mentally ill patient to participate in treatment, or juggling demands on your time from other staff, making deals is bread and butter psychiatry. These are general tips for dealing with competing demands on your time or management plans. Answer your pager when it goes off. I am allergic to my pager. Circumstantial: December 2010

http://circumstantially.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html

Incidental thoughts about life in psychiatry. Monday, December 20, 2010. The kids had started to call me Dad. I thought about family and how it's constructed after hearing a patient say this. One day. He had ended his brief relationship with a woman and his regret was expressed in the statement about the children starting to accept him into the household. What do you think? Monday, December 6, 2010. Is she playing with my mind? What is a mind? Are thoughts just electrical impulses down nerve cells? The p...

Our take on life as a young family. On Love and Fear. Asymp; 4 Comments. I created this post long ago and it’s been sitting in my drafts box, but thanks to Sarah Bessey’s Practices of Parenting Carnival, I had reason to dust off and finish. Thanks for reading! In my fifteen short months of motherhood, I have found one very simple yet overwhelmingly effective method in producing a truly happy, healthy and nurturing relationship with my son. I can get caught up in making sure he’s eating the healthie...

A Listening Place - Home

Thank you for entering A Listening Place. My name is Robyn King, and I am delighted you are here. About ten years ago I went to Italy with two objectives. The first was to see the greatest works of art by the Italian masters, and the second was to clarify my life purpose. I told friends I would return home once I had accomplished both objectives. I visited Venice, Rome, and Florence. I nourished my soul.

a Listening walk.... - Blog

I sell fly tying material and fly fishing gear for a living. But, I recently realized that I no longer fit in the financial demographic that most of my customers do. This realization didn't happen quickly, in fact it kind of snuck up on me. But the real icing on the cake was an advertising pitch to me that said "fly fisherman on average make $XX,XXX per year, and have lots of expendable income to spend on YOUR products and services". Well, I no longer made that! The CLoset of Doom. But in our hearts....
