The Making of Life: an art installation | Notes from Undergrounded

The Making of Life: an art installation. Leave a comment ». I love the way I move in art, and I feel somehow changed within a space redefined by sculpture. I am so much more than yogurt and granola bars. Are these defining objects of my lifestyle? Sunday’s blustery cold didn’t stop me from visiting the New Museum. In Soho, another one of those spots off the R or N train that have been on my list forever. Although Urs Fischer’s. It was odd to see the recent past recreated as a relic – these were not...

January | 2010 | Notes from Undergrounded
https://alizahrose.wordpress.com/2010/01
Archive for January 2010. Leave a comment ». People look ugly and pale. And mean. Extreme wind has etched the lines and creases deep into your face; the cold sets your new aged look. No amount of chapstick will heal those cracked, bleeding lips. How attractive! You have a nasty cold – again – and this time you don’t even bother with the Kleenex. Why not use your sleeve? You wonder what’s become of you, then consider moving to L.A. But what can I do but let nature take its course? A Few Notes on Haiti.

A Few Notes on Haiti | Notes from Undergrounded
https://alizahrose.wordpress.com/2010/01/14/a-few-notes-on-haiti
A Few Notes on Haiti. Leave a comment ». It is hard to think of writing about anything else than Haiti this morning. Anyone who has ever experienced any sort of loss (and that would be us all) can only fathom the heartache of the Haitian people and their loved ones. I am often critical of monetary relief efforts, especially in the wake of Katrina and other tragedies where well-meaning somehow morphs to greed. Compelling photos, informative articles, and useful links, should they be of interest. Notify me...

The Jersey Shore: a Critical Analysis | Notes from Undergrounded

The Jersey Shore: a Critical Analysis. Leave a comment ». In just a few weeks, Jersey Shore. Has become the new. Keeping Up With the Kardashians. We all know that. I’ll let the show speak for itself. A few choice quotes from yesterday’s episode:. 8220;These girls aren’t hoes. It may take, like, a couple of times of hanging out before they’ll get naked and get in the hot tub.”. 8220;Its all about your numbers. If you call enough girls, you’re bound to hit it.”. Every single one of us now has the ability t...

Circumcise Me – Onstage | Notes from Undergrounded

Circumcise Me – Onstage. Leave a comment ». The true test of a man’s faith resides in what he is willing to sacrifice. Israel Campbell proves his devotion to his faith three times over in Circumcise Me. Doesn’t rely on shtick about what happens when a scalpel meets a grown man’s penis (three times). Nor is it merely about Judaism. It is a tale of transformation and one man’s discovery of what everyone longs to find: a sense of belonging. January 4, 2010 at 4:19 pm. Laquo; New Year, New York.

Healthy Shemlthy | Notes from Undergrounded

Leave a comment ». How much had I paid per ounce? I downed my little plastic cup in a few sips. Still hungry, I then stumbled upon Soup Stop, where I got a cup of spinach lentil that came with bread and a small apple for $4.90. A great deal, plus that post-soup inner warmth on a bitter cold day to boot! Case in point: eating healthy on a budget can be done, and done well. Small cup of carrot apple ginger juice at Cafe Blossom: Columbus and 82nd. Frothy large latte from Max Cafe: 122nd and Amsterdam.

Shrine Worship | Notes from Undergrounded

Leave a comment ». My visit to The Shrine. Was a long time coming. This Central Harlem world music venue/performance space/art gallery/restaurant was mentioned to me while reporting in East Harlem a handful of times, and as a journalist I always have to follow-up on a good lead. Stuck his camera near my face to record footage for a show in Brazil. Who knows? You might catch me grooving at the Shrine on a t.v. set in San Paulo. January 8, 2010 at 5:38 pm.
