Friday, October 2, 2009. Hot-trunk fence for ellies. Crop-raiding elephants are a big problem in many African countries where farmland borders game parks and reserves. Subsistence farming is the way most people get their food, so hungry pachyderms who favour bananas and mealies above even lush grass in the rainfall months are a serious pest. Unfortunately, both elephants and people pay a heavy price for this. Every year in. Nearly 200 people are crushed or gored, and many elephants are killed. I’ a...

Sunday, October 4, 2009. 3 Little Blue Penguins (Korora). Little Blue penguins make a variety of calls to keep in contact at sea (barks), declare territory and advertise for mates (brays) and to let the neighbors know they are home (croon). The only call chicks make is a high pitch peeping as they beg for food. Little blue penguins feed on a variety of surface schooling fish, squid and crustaceans. Monday, 05 October, 2009. Keeping and Breeding Birds: 8. Rats, Mice and snake problems
http://keepingandbreedingbirds.blogspot.com/2009/10/8-rats-mice-and-snake-problems.html
Thursday, October 15, 2009. 8 Rats, Mice and snake problems. To make it more difficult for pest to get into your aviary, Put some smooth tinplate 60–70 cm high on the outside of the bottom part of the aviary. You can also place fine mesh chicken wire vertically into the ground to a depth of 40cm and then bend it out horizontally. This will not keep out small field mice or small snakes but it keeps out the rats that kill larger birds. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Birds of New Zealand.
