In January 2012, our lives were turned upside down when our 12 year-old daughter Niamh was diagnosed with an undifferentiated sarcoma on the base of her spine. All childhood cancers are rare, but this is a particularly rare form of tumour. Treatment initially began with a 7 hour emergency spinal operation to prevent what was becoming serious nerve damage to the lower part of her body. Our no regrets philosophy is always in the forefront of my mind with things like this. The whole cruise was brilliant - we really enjoyed it and the food was amazing. Niamh is a bit of a foodie so she enjoys trying new things and nice foods. And yes, she really didnt take off that hat and coat unless she was indoors - even then it was under duress. All About Niamh - Our Cancer Journey. Laquo; Is it really two years? The day after. ». Pleased to say that Niamh had another clear chest x-ray this week meaning she has now been in remission 14.5 months. The further away from treatment she gets, the better it is and the higher chance of the cancer not coming back. She still has ongoing issues that we are working through and referrals for spinal, mobility and other issues and been put through. MRI next month - thats the one she gets most nervous about.
