Participation is completely voluntary and currently includes movie afternoons, carpet bowls, exercise classes, the annual fete, Christmas functions, library and monthly birthday teas. There are 318 homes comprising 272 cottages at Allison Homes at 488 Burger Street in the CBD area and 46 cottages at Albert Allison Haven on the Mbubu Road in Boughton, Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. There is a lovely sense of community and almost a village-like atmosphere, behind the secured walls and gates of Allison Homes. Each person has their routine and can decide just how much (or how little) they would like to do each day! There are no schedules to follow!

The Allison Homes Trust is managed by five legally appointed Trustees, which owns all the assets. PADCA’s mission is to assist seniors at whatever age or stage they are which includes supporting the desire to live independently by offering both accommodation and support services. The current trend is for senior citizens to live independently in the community to a much greater age than was previously the case - perhaps only needing residential or more specialised care in their mid to late eighties. PADCA has embarked on an exciting collaboration with the Allison Homes Trust.

Social Clubs and Activities. PADCA has a rental option for seniors wanting to live independently on relatively limited incomes. This is provided at Kurume. A cottage complex in Mount Michael. The rental is a flat rate rental, adjusted for single persons or couples. There is an upper income limit. This is to reserve this relatively scarce accommodation for seniors within a certain income category. Please enquire at PADCA for current rental tariffs. And at Kenwyn Retirement Home.
