March 2014 | Allotments 4 you

http://www.allotments4you.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Monday, 31 March 2014. March 2014 weather summary. Well March has been a pretty good month. We've had some wind and rain but not too much and many days the sun has shone and warmed us through nicely and I have seen the bees making many journeys backwards and forwards with pollen laden baskets.always a good sign. Hard to imagine that this time last year we still had snow on the ground and spring still hadn't arrived. A couple of low nights have given some frosts but nothing below -2. Posted by Tanya Walton.

February 2015 | Allotments 4 you

http://www.allotments4you.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, 22 February 2015. Well over the last few weeks I have been a little worried about the beehives. You do the best you can in winter but you never really know what is going to happen so it is left up to fate as to what will happen. This was my assumption but not certainty so I wouldn't risk going into the hives just in case as I would have to go down to the brood chamber to really determine what had gone wrong and then if there was nothing wrong the cold could kill the colony. 65279;. No pics of t...

Friday, 8 May 2015. I love that movie, 'Notting Hill' especially when Hugh Grant says this line.more than once I might add.having said that though this is a saying I said many times before watching the movie. But I digress.so what was my oopsy? Brassica self watering cells trays. So that all looks pretty normal.right? How about a closer look. Count the germinated plants. So you see how many of my brassicas germinated? Posted by Tanya Walton. 8 May 2015 at 17:14. Ooops Give it time, you never know. The Br...

Wednesday, 12 November 2014. Just click on the photos to make them bigger! Posted by Tanya Walton. Tuesday, 11 November 2014. Out walking with Trojan across the fields earlier in the week we found mushrooms popping up all over the place. I do not know how to identify them so have no idea if they were safe to eat so left them be, Trojan didn't think they smelt too appetising either! None the less.they were great photo material! This one is upside down but I left it this way. I'm kind of fond of this.

The Good Life: April 2015

http://jo-thegoodlife.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Charting the progress on my allotment in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Monday, 27 April 2015. Photo Medley - April. Here's this month's batch of photos which haven't yet been seen on the blog. A real hotchpotch of things this month. All my container grown fruit has been repotted in fresh compost this year. This photo of my smallest blueberry bush was taken in the first week of April, it's almost in flower now. A few more photos from Yorkshire Lavender which we visited earlier in the month. Post, only one of my ...

The Good Life: February 2015

http://jo-thegoodlife.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Charting the progress on my allotment in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Friday, 27 February 2015. Back in 2013 I treated myself to a new plant each month. I followed one of Geoff Hamilton's tips, buying a plant in flower each month of the year so that I'd have something blooming in the garden the whole year round. It has increased in size though, and as you can see, it's just starting to bud up. It should have a mass of flowers given time. Its flowers are produced in late winter and early spring, so it sounds as...

Tpals Place: Grand opening

http://tpalsplace.blogspot.com/2015/06/grand-opening.html

A little place in a little town where I will stumble along the path to being a little bit greener. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. Over the weekend I moved the chickens into the new coop. Three more nest boxes and lots more floor space make it very nice. The most time consuming part of getting it ready was the insulation, but much easier to do it while empty. I'm going to move over the roosting bars from the old coop yet. Otherwise I'm happy with it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). A Home Grown Journal.

http://jo-thegoodlife.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Charting the progress on my allotment in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Monday, 29 June 2015. Photo Medley - June. It's hard to believe that it's time again for my monthly photo medley, half the year's gone already. So, on with this month's round up of photos. I bought a foxglove last year from a local plant sale. At the beginning of the month it was just starting to come in to flower. The lake always looks so tranquil with the weeping willows draping over it. Irises at Harlow Carr. I love this seahorse. My pota...

Charting the progress on my allotment in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Saturday, 4 July 2015. In 2013 I followed the late Geoff Hamilton's advice and visited a garden centre or nursery each month of the year with a view to buying a plant in flower. This should ensure that there's something flowering in my garden every month of the year. Saturday, July 04, 2015. July 04, 2015. All the best Jan. July 04, 2015. July 04, 2015. July 04, 2015. A south-facing plot on a sloping site in south-west Sheffield, with aspirations to become a vineyard. Tuesday, January 14, 2014. It all adds up. Are you into seed-saving at all? Weve (finally) bought a garden and heritage seeds and seed-saving are going to be a big part of it. PS: Your blog is delicious. It kept me going during my gardenlessness. Wowthats a lot of rent.how big are your plots? Does this include insurances and water? Hows the wine coming on? Im not sure where you are exactly, but Im sendin...

Allotments and other stuff

Allotments and other stuff. Tuesday, 18 September 2012. We love sweetcorn, which is why my attempts to grow it for the past 5 years have been so disappointing (the first year however was a roaring success). Each year I carefully nurture my seedlings, sown in modules in the greenhouse, then moved to a bed that's been lovingly weeded and layered with compost. I water them and underplant with beans and squash (the 'three sisters'). And what happens? This year I grew two batches of sweetcorn (I accidently bo...
