A Gentleman's Providence. Admiring the Past, Redefining the Modern Gentleman. The Bold Patterns of La Matera. March 16, 2015. I have always been intrigued by the look of the patterns from South America and Native Americans. How these patterns are made by hand is such an interesting art. Putting this interest of mine into clothing form is a company called La Matera. For a few months now. I finally found the money to buy one and jumped at the opportunity. This belt, called the Mendoza. You must be logged in.

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Boiled Peanuts - A Southern Tradition. We were driving along Highway 231 headed north toward Interstate 10 on the way home from a Panama City Beach visit when we spotted "boiled peanuts" for sale along the side of the road. There were several customers lined up to make their purchases. I was reminded it has been a long time since I made boiled peanuts and it was time to put them on my "to do" list. Then this weekend while driving along the highway. The next day I headed out to ou...

Saturday, November 29, 2014. A Little Southern Americana. Traveling through the Southern Appalachian area of North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia, and driving through the back roads and small towns in these states, I was reminded of the word, "Americana.". To me, that term is appropriate to describe American culture in many forms, but most often I think of that word describing the more simple and charming aspects of American life. The Heartland Little River Wedding Chapel. What a charming little chapel.

Friday, January 30, 2015. Margaret Mitchell House - Birthplace of "Gone With The Wind.". On a recent cold, rain-filled and foggy weekend we were delighted to visit the big city of Atlanta, Georgia. We love to drive through this beautiful city and see all of the tall buildings and bright lights. I think of Atlanta as the Capital of the South. 990 Peachtree Street NE. This lovely house is the restored home of "Gone With The Wind". The below photo shows the back of the house. The tour of the home began at t...

Wednesday, September 24, 2014. As we all know it is time for a change of seasons. Fall officially began here on September 22, 2014 at 10:29 EDT. I do hate to say good-bye to what has been a beautiful Summer, but on the other hand the cooler, fresher days of Fall are a joy as well. Flowers are so beautiful they speak for themselves. It is very easy to make a pretty arrangement with these lovely flowers. I neede...

She shared her recipe with me and I have made that cake many times over the years. I will share my sister's original Magic Dump Cake recipe with you later in this post. See how eas...
