The history of deadCenter is as exciting as the land runs that opened Oklahoma territory, but a lot less dangerous. Check out highlights from our illustrious 15 years history. The deadCenter Film Festival was founded in 2001 by Justan and Jayson Floyd, who hosted a one night screening of short films from Oklahoma filmmakers at City Arts on the State Fairgrounds. DeadCenter is run by 4 full time staff members, 24 community leaders on our volunteer board of directors, 13 long time volunteers on our advisory committee, 75 film enthusiasts on our screening team, 3 programmers, 12 invited judges, and more than 400 volunteers. A few are listed below. Director of Programming and Education. Kim produced a rock opera, Rainbow Around the Sun, which premiered at SXSW before kicking off deadCenter in 2008. Being Evel,’ ‘Welcome to Happiness,’ take 2015 top honors. A documentary about the complicated legacy of Evel Knievel and a metaphysical drama about a children's book author won top honors at the 15th Annual deadCENTER Film Festival, held June 10-14 in downtown Oklahoma City. Being Evel, by Academy Award-winning director Daniel Junge was selected as Best Documentary Feature, and Best Narrative Feature was awarded to Director Oliver Thompson’s Welcome to Happiness. Best Documentary Feature: Being Evel.
