A journal describing Mike Yanasak's and Jan Lapiana's Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike (April-October 2011). Friday, December 2, 2011. We’ve been off the trail for about three months. We ended our hike in September, and we came home and rested. For a couple of weeks. We were surprised: we had no idea we were so exhausted- and hungry! We craved lots of sleep and HUGE AMOUNTS OF FOOD. We have each now achieved. Mike had, at one point, been down by 17 lbs. while Jan had dropped about 12 lbs. OK It became appa...

A journal describing Mike Yanasak's and Jan Lapiana's Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike (April-October 2011). Sunday, August 14, 2011. Note: the following was written o/a 1 August, as we- in true outdoorsmanlike fashion- sat in a bar in Lone Pine waiting out a storm which we could clearly see raging up in the vicinity of Mt. Whitney):. We are seeing a side of California that I'd never anticipated: awful summer weather! We'll check with NOAA again tomorrow and then decide accordingly. Note: several days late...

A journal describing Mike Yanasak's and Jan Lapiana's Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike (April-October 2011). Sunday, May 15, 2011. PCT milepost #266, Big Bear City, Ca.). It is raining here this morning- a good ol' Seattle drizzle- and here we sit, comfortably warm, snug (and smug) in the Motel 6, Rm. #205. What incredible timing! We are grateful for all the help and time people have so willingly given us. Our ice-encrusted tent in the morning. Our thermometer said 15 degrees! Really, really cold! Location...

A journal describing Mike Yanasak's and Jan Lapiana's Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike (April-October 2011). Saturday, April 30, 2011. Since then, we've also gone into the small (lovely, and very "hiker-friendly") town of Jullian to collect a resupply box from that PO, and to eat huge omelettes and salads. In this case, the PCT crosses a highway, so we hitchhiked 12 miles into town and back (thank you, Joe and Lee, for the rides). No problem getting into and out of towns thus far. Weather: consistently cle...

A journal describing Mike Yanasak's and Jan Lapiana's Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) hike (April-October 2011). Thursday, July 28, 2011. Back to the Sierras. Jan) We have taken a couple of weeks off due to the heavy snowpack in the Sierras and northern California, and are now on our way back down to Lone Pine, Ca to take up the trail again. We're hoping to find, upon resuming our place on the trail, that a lot of snow has since melted and that the river crossings are now more manageable. Natural High sliding ...

A Muddy Mess | Rebecca Jackson Aydelette, potter

Rebecca Jackson Aydelette, potter. March 16, 2015. My favorite ritual of the day is my first cup of coffee. Listening to the sound as I fill my mug. Watching the cream whirl through the rich, dark liquid. I don’t stir it. I just get mesmerized by the swirling ribbons of cream. Cradling my mug in both hands as it warms my fingers. Inhaling deeply and slowly. The rising steam warming my face. The aroma filling my lungs. And finally, that first mellow, creamy sip. Its how I start every day. February 27, 2015.
