Modern Printmakers: Rachel Whiteread: disappearing act
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2015/07/rachel-whiteread-disappearing-act.html
Monday, 20 July 2015. Rachel Whiteread: disappearing act. There is so much in poetic alliance in Whiteread's work: light, memory, thought, loss. Viewed properly she connects us up in all kinds of ways and at her easiest to understand (as the photograph of Trafalgar Square makes plain), her sculpture directs us back to our own environment, physical and then mental, by filling empty spaces. This was why she was always the perfect sculptor for the unused fourth plinth. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Friday, 9 August 2013. A bookplate by Carl Moll. I am sorry about how few posts there have been on Modern Printmakers recently, but here is something for everyone who is colour woodcut at heart: an early bookplate with an attribution to the Viennese secessionist, Carl Moll, who I featured quite some while back. Modern Printmakers: November 2013
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Friday, 22 November 2013. Had appeared by 1919 and found him shamelessly exploiting the work of Robert Gibbings (specifically. But he had trained as a copyist at home in Sydney, where he had worked as an illustrator and staff artist on two newspapers in the 1890s, so that should come as no real surprise. But it was left with friends who became unobtainable. (And I would. Sunday, 17 November 2013. The art of borrowing. Before the first war and Giles came up with his 'venturesome'. Modern Printmakers: June 2013
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 25 June 2013. On Monday a print called. By the Scottish artist, Helen Stevenson, went for just over £200. This may well be the highest that one of her colour woodcuts has gone for on on ebay. The irony is that someone paid that amount for one of her cheaper prints. How do I know this? But what is affordable today? And do you seriously go out and spend that much when you could buy directly from a dealer for the same amount? Nice weather for ducks. If you ask me. Modern Printmakers: Three Scottish artists: Jessie Garrow's 'The wave'
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2015/07/jessie-garrows-wave.html
Friday, 24 July 2015. Three Scottish artists: Jessie Garrow's 'The wave'. I am starting to think that 'The wave' was the only colour woodcut that Jessie Garrow ever made. Like most people, I only know it from the illustration published by. In 1924 but just on that evidence I would say here is the most professional and stylish colour woodcut made by any young Scottish artist at the time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Modern Printmakers: Steven Hutchins update
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2015/07/steven-hutchins.html
Monday, 20 July 2015. Quite a long time ago there was a post about the British woodcut artist, Steven Hutchins. I. He made only three colour woodcuts, all of them in the early 1980s. I think the Venetian scene must be the third one. Also included is his masterly. Both different in style, you see that Hutchins wasn't a hard-and-fast traditionalist but was capable of accomplished work with and without the keyblock. In fact, the Venice image may even be a linocut. 22 July 2015 at 11:10. 22 July 2015 at 19:33.

Modern Printmakers: On ebay: Kenneth Broad 'A Sussex Farm'
https://haji-b.blogspot.com/2015/08/on-ebay-kenneth-broad-sussex-farm.html
Saturday, 1 August 2015. On ebay: Kenneth Broad 'A Sussex Farm'. Also on e-bay but this time in the United States, a very fine but imperfect impression of Kenneth Broad's quite lovely 1925 colour woodcut,. Presumably this was one of the impressions Broad sold in the US at the time. Unlike Read, though, Broad's career failed to take off and many of his later prints are rare. 14 August 2015 at 17:08.
