non-secateur: Plant of the week: Muehlenbeckia complexa
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2010/10/plant-of-week-muehlenbeckia-complexa.html
Sunday, October 24, 2010. Plant of the week: Muehlenbeckia complexa. Is it a vine? It looks like a cross between boxwood and a maidenhair fern. What is it? Muehlenbeckia complexa, a little vining, scrambling plant from New Zealand. I love the way it fills in here and there. Shade or part sun is the plant's preferred home but it will grow in full sun with extra water. I'm using it partially clothe the cliff part of Whiskey Creek. OK so this week's plant of the week is a short one. There are so many plants...

non-secateur: Plants we like: Crassula ovata 'Undulata'
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2011/11/plants-we-like-crassula-ovata-undulata.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. Plants we like: Crassula ovata 'Undulata'. There are so many plants that I love or want to love. It's so hard to figure out where to put them all. I remember when I first heard about Crassula ovata 'Undulata' (EuroAmerican has it as 'Jitters') from a post on Dirt Du Jour. So, now I like it so much I want to really let it kick up its heals. The question is where? Being the frugal gardener that I am, I will be taking cuttings to get the look I want, not buying more plants. My Cra...

Check back soon for more posts I promise. ;). Southern California Garden Blog. May 22, 2014 at 8:54 PM. A month in Oaxaca, sounds like Heaven. So are you fluent now? Plant...

non-secateur: Visiting Jonathan at Chanticleer
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2013/08/visiting-jonathan-to-chanticleer.html
Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Visiting Jonathan at Chanticleer. Jonathan has an amazing eye, I have these same incredible natural concretions at home but not perfectly arranged like this. Jonathan created what I would call hanging meadows. Very unusual Dahlia 'Obsidian ', Jonathan's find. Dan Benarik's tower of some variegated Coprosma. Dan's tropical design is fantastic, subtle color play with Philodendrons. This year's Tea Cup Garden. Zinnias in the veg garden. Erie stone faces a la Marcia Donohue. The o...

non-secateur: Plant of the week: Sedum 'Lemon Coral'
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2011/03/plant-of-week-sedum-lemon-coral.html
Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Plant of the week: Sedum 'Lemon Coral'. At least that's what I thought. And plants get re-marketed all the time, one year one name, another year another name. Anyway I thought it was more of the same, but I did as I was told and just set the cuttings in a 6" pot of soil and put them aside. Recently I did a whole (little) area of it in the garden, see photos below. Now I'm convinced I need acreage. Oh, I have plans, yes I do. More ground giving over to golden shag carpet. Someda...

non-secateur: Plant of the week: Euphorbia x martinii 'Ascot Rainbow'
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2011/06/plant-of-week-euphorbia-x-martinii.html
Friday, June 3, 2011. Plant of the week: Euphorbia x martinii 'Ascot Rainbow'. Plant addiction is a serious disease, one that must be moderated if you want to survive. So, I have developed a technique to retard the otherwise unfettered growth of my plant collections, that is being very skeptical. And I'm more likely to try a plant that is very new to me than a cultivar of a plant I already know but have not had luck growing. On a more silly note. how gay is the name Ascot rainbow?
