Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): November 2014

Sunday, November 23, 2014. The Zombie Apocolypse (or homeschool challenge #347). When I imagined all the challenges that homeschooling my 3 little men would bring me, I did not anticipate one very real situation that we currently have on our hands. They are real, folks. Trying to get dressed and make beds and brush their teeth for another exhaustive amount of time. They move in slow motion and their brains are not turned on until some time after lunch. I am a morning person. By the time I finish lunch, m...

Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): December 2014
http://twotimesthefunoboy.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. It's been quite a year. Heck, it's been quite a week. This week has been full. Full of travel. Full of family. Full of friends. Full of memories. Full of fun. So here I sit on New Year's Eve in my parents' house while my dad is out, my kids are sleeping, and my husband is driving home from work in western Kansas. I'm watching HGTV and painting my fingernails a color called "Cinderella" and expecting to turn into a pumpkin before midnight rolls around. I am determined to savor.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Less is More, part deux. Most of the boxes are unpacked, and this place is starting to feel like home. There is a lot that I miss about our old home, and the green house. Finding our house is like playing Where's Waldo. I did add this crazy guy to the front stoop for some character (and a "landmark" of sorts). Two days ago, the youngest observed, "Mommy, we don't have any friends here, do we? Cloudy sunrise panorama from the back door. But, maybe, less is more. Maybe what I need i...

Tuesday, July 29, 2014. We engrave "Rest In Peace" on the headstones of our loved ones, but it is our hearts that are often left searching for that peace, or even, that. After several hours of resting there, I was truly able to see the beauty of the place, the day, and the lives that had touched mine, directly and indirectly. For me, it has always served as a monument to history. It reminds me of the importance of preserving what we can, placing value on things that are otherwise worthless. Teach...Nosta...

Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): Just Not Pinterested
http://twotimesthefunoboy.blogspot.com/2015/05/just-not-pinterested.html
Tuesday, May 12, 2015. During this, the week after Mother's Day, I'm finally getting around to something I've been sitting on for a while. I can't really think of a better time to say say it than now, though, as we have just finished celebrating what it means to be a mom. It didn't seem too daunting at first. One trip to the thrift store. Two crafty little projects. And, as it turned out, a whole lot of stewing, frustration, and mom guilt. You see, we live in the Pinterest generation. Between cleaning th...

Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): October 2014
http://twotimesthefunoboy.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Wednesday, October 29, 2014. Confession: I am not ready. One year ago this week I was trying to celebrate the 6th birthday of the twins. One year ago this week I was helping my kids enjoy Halloween with parades, candy, costumes, and trick-or-treating. One year ago this week I was holding my breath, waiting for my mom to die. I miss her every day. It's the little things that make me think of her most of the time. The other day it was when I reached into the spice cabinet and pulled out this:. And then I g...

Friday, February 13, 2015. The Sheep Blankie of Destructo-ness. I love being a boy mom. Really. I do. Almost all the time, I absolutely adore being a mommy to 3 little boys. I can't imagine what my life would be like if I had kids that loved to sit at the table and quietly craft with me for hours at a time. There are rare occasions, though, that I *love* being a boy mom.sarcastically. There are times when I may fantasize about pink dresses and lip gloss. Public Restrooms, for example. And I may break out...

Two Times the Fun (and Then Some): March 2015
http://twotimesthefunoboy.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 28, 2015. Today at Shorty's soccer match, the hubs overheard some stellar parent yelling at his 5-year-old little boy that he was "running like a girl.". What was happening at that moment was wrong on so many levels. Was he pigeon toed? Were his arms waving above his head? All he really knew was that his father was disappointed in him. Words were made to communicate. Please choose them carefully so that they can. Third, although the expression "like a girl" didn't communicate anything to ...
