One never stops learning. Although I have drawn and painted from school days and have grown up with art all around me it is only recently that I have been able to concentrate on painting and to develop my approach to art. Painting with other people I find a wonderful way of opening the mind to opportunity. By sharing problems and challenges so often solutions have a way of presenting themselves. Welcome to my on line gallery and to a selection of my work. Although I seem to concentrate on oil painting with its rich finish I also enjoy the freedom of pencil or charcoal and the flexibility of pastel. What inspires me to paint? The blends and contrasts of colour and tone found in Scotland’s Nature so often touched by the changing rhythms of light and shade this transience can make the capture of mental image on canvas something of a challenge difficult for a mere mortal! I really enjoy life drawing and painting and I’m up for the challenge of capturing a likeness and catching character, whether human or animal. I am happy making a drawing, a pastel or an oil, depending on the requirements of the client and these details can be discussed. Landscapes, buildings et al. I also take commissions for other subjects the family home, a favourite view. Again, I prefer to complete a work in situ but I can also work from sketches or studies I have made of the subject.
