I was happy to see this that this blog is still getting updated, so I thought I'd share some cool and relevant research I learned about in my Computer Vision class. These researchers managed to construct a generic human model based on the common features of several meshes, and can use them to extract movement from a series of photos, and apply them to another model. There will be weight painting issues which you can not dodge with this process but I still find that it is a faster way of getting baseline animation with correct timing and poses. Grayscale to 3D Mesh PS CS4. Not the best demonstration, but you get the idea. Apparently PS CS4 will generate a 3D mesh from a gray scale image.
