Rhetorical Rants from Epsilon Reticuli: Liberal Freedom (Part 1)
http://benevolentempress.blogspot.com/2008/09/liberal-freedom.html
Rhetorical Rants from Epsilon Reticuli. Things That Make Me Go "F*ck". Friday, September 12, 2008. Liberal Freedom (Part 1). In my mind, it seems a pretty simple choice. I enjoy freedom more than I enjoy money. I realise that it hasn't been that apparent judging from my first few attempts at blog writing, but I think that it very much ties into my reasoning about who I cast my vote for every election. These freedoms are always there for the rich, no matter what country they may live in. They are not ...

Saturday, January 31, 2009. Day 3 at OLA Super Conference. I began the day with Eleanor Wachtel. She does CBC's Writers and Company. I am in love with her voice. Today's highlight was Justin Trudeau. There was a delicious moment that I will get to later. Justin has a good speaking voice but it seems a bit too practiced. He talked about social justice and the importance of libraries. It was a conference of librarians and he is a politician, whaddya expect? It made me smile from ear to ear that this type o...

Sunday, March 8, 2009. A little prayer from my childhood that has firmly entrenched itself in my mind:. I am most heartily sorry. For having offended thee. And I detest all my sins most sincerely. Not only because of them. That I have lost all rights to heaven. And deserved the everlasting torments of hell. But especially oh my God. Because I have displeased Thee. That I firmly resolve. With the help of Thy Grace. Never more to offend thee. But to amend my life. Not only because of them. I had intimation...

Impeach the Pope". er. I mean "File A Lawsuit against the Vatican, GODDAMNIT. As I was reading through the German humanist press-service (hpd), I read how US courts have decided that the Vatican can be sued, but that the Vatican might refer to its state immunity, and this might make actual prosecution impossible. Yes, in 12 of our federal states, you have to pay a fee to leave a church. Recently determined that while this practice does. All nations on this earth should recognize that while priests may be...

I have a new toy. I needed a new cellular phone. And since I'm a real audiophile and cineast and simply love technological gimmicks, I decided upon a high-end device. Initially, I thought I'd get either the Nokia N95 8bg, then I thought perhaps the N96 or the Omnia or the Xperia X1. I considered the iPhone, but it's only available with quite expensive (even oppressive) contracts, and the Xperia has a better screen-resolution. The htc Touch HD. Have a look at these:. Htc Touch HD Hardware Tour. I looked a...

Deontology vs Consequentialism - A false distinction. - mphil
http://mphil.livejournal.com/6002.html
Deontology vs Consequentialism - A false distinction. We all consider questions of how best to behave in given situations, and treat some set of such questions as questions of ethical nature. Naturally, we face the question of what our standards should be, how we should evaluate options for behaviour in their moral dimension. Where we chose not to perform a certain action from a deontological standpoint - meaning because the act itself is such that our value-system makes it our duty not to perform it - t...

Nov 10th, 2008. Thermodynamics and Complex Systems - Life on Earth. PZ Myers has just posted on his blog about the old creationist argument that "Evolution contradicts the 2nd law of thermodynmaics", and has introduced a paper by Daniel Styer on the subject. Since this touches upon my recent studies, I want to present my thoughts on this matter. These are the two comments I posted on the respective thread on Pharyngula:. Posted at 09:18 pm.
