A manifesto against negativity | From the Windowseat

https://annainjamaica.wordpress.com/2010/02/19/a-manifesto-against-negativity

A manifesto against negativity. February 19, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. For the past month or so I have felt as though work and life have been conspiring against me. I fully recognize that when one works abroad they need to be able to ‘roll with the punches’ however, it simply felt as though there were too many punches coming in too quick succession…too many things that did not make enough sense. That said, why I am now writing such a cryptic post? No Definitely not. Absolutely not. You are probab...

The youth of YOU. May 21, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. People often ask why I continue to work abroad. Isn’t it hard to leave what you know? Yes Isn’t it frustrating to have to adapt to a new reality? Yes But…Isn’t it amazing to meet new people? Yes Isn’t it powerful to find inspiration? Thank you to the youth of YOU. You are brighter and better than you are often told. You have stolen my heart. I knew it would happen. Filipino, Marshallese, Peruvian, and Canadian youth have all done...You are comme...

Views and Thoughts for Contemplation | From the Windowseat

https://annainjamaica.wordpress.com/2010/03/28/views-and-thoughts-for-contemplation

Views and Thoughts for Contemplation. March 28, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. Yes, I decided to add one more post for today. The thoughts are in my head, and, therefore, now is the day to let them travel through my fingers. So, below is a list of some rather interesting things that I have seen / thought of throughout March. Things that struck me or made me do a double-take and therefore things that I don’t want to forget:. A chicken wishbone moving across the sidewalk (the power of ants! 8220;We had ...

December | 2009 | From the Windowseat

Archive for December, 2009. December 31, 2009 · Filed under Uncategorized. As I write this the view outside my window is not of a mango tree, but rather of millions of swirling snowflakes — the window seat is far away…for Christmas I made a surprise journey back home. That said, it has also been filled with Canadian/Jamaican cultural clash moments. Observances include:. Driving through town and never once hearing a car honk its horn. The wonders of consistent water pressure. Have a fabulous new year.

Still here (working) in Jamaica. February 2, 2010 · Filed under Uncategorized. Yes, I am still here in Jamaica. January slipped through my fingers, but now it is February (! And, hopefully, blogging can slip back into my life. January was characterized by an intriguing shift — work became less about figuring things out (although I still do a lot of that! This simply means that we have drastically increased our workload. Sometimes we look at each other and say that we will not take on any more new project...

sharing coaching | Beneath the Mosquito Net

https://beneaththemosquitonet.wordpress.com/2010/05/18/sharing-coaching

Beneath the Mosquito Net. As if to celebrate the completion of just over 6 months in Cameroon, I had a great opportunity to be Coach Caroline once more. Though I have coached, proposed coaching programs, written about coaching and otherwise kept up with the field, this was my first major outing to share this love of mine. Working in organization , and one I am co-facilitating on introducing the Executive Council for VSO and the Professional Development Group (which I am a member of! Let me run through th...

https://beneaththemosquitonet.wordpress.com/2011/10/25/without-a-mossie-net

Beneath the Mosquito Net. Without a mossie net. It’s been two weeks since we left Cameroon 14 days since we zipped the bags, mentally stored our memories and headed for the airport amidst an oncoming rainstorm of biblical proportions. Just Cameroon’s way of reminding us that it is a powerful force that we have not, even after two years of living and working there, completely figured out. And it won’t let go too easily either! Was that a message? Here’s how it went down:. A final bow. Get pictures tak...

picturing local economic development opportunities | Beneath the Mosquito Net

Beneath the Mosquito Net. Picturing local economic development opportunities. A couple weeks ago, I was lucky enough (alongside fellow-volunteer, Cornelia) to be able to facilitate a short photovoice project with IDF the same organization I have been doing coaching training with. It got me fired up in a big way! The photovoice project was about economic development and the opportunities for greater work in that area by IDF and VSO Cameroon. More precisely, we were working on answering the question:.

Beneath the Mosquito Net. Reintegration: the firsts and the nexts. The excitement of coming home has only worn off by a few degrees as, now two full month in, we are still having firsts. The first time eating sushi, oreo cookies and soy pumpkin chai latte (but not all at once! The first time riding in a public bus, the BC ferry or driving a car. The first snow, the first time wearing mittens, the first feel of sub-zero temperatures. Then there are other firsts. That’s likely a good thing. 8211; Self-impo...

a dog story | Beneath the Mosquito Net

https://beneaththemosquitonet.wordpress.com/2012/02/15/a-dog-story

Beneath the Mosquito Net. After you’ve been home for a few months and have told the same story countless times, you start to wonder if you might have completely run out of more original material. How many times did I tell the one about the cow parts in the trunk of the taxi? How many times do I tell that one to the same people who had already read about it on the blog? Am I even interesting anymore or have I just turned into that person who only has one unusual story and tells it over and over and over?

Allora....

Friday, November 14, 2008. We also had the privilidge of having Marco, who is a WW2 expert because he lived here through it all, take us to Anzio to see where the allied forces landed. There is a beautiful United States cemetery that we visited, it was pouring down rain, but we still among the thousands of white marble crosses looking at all of the names. It felt so good to see the American flag flying. They drag large net tarps underneath each tree to gather the olives. I'll be home in 3 weeks and a day!

Siete semanas en Kolkata… for the moment. Tomba de la madre teresa. Abril 22, 2011. I DO NOTHING HE DOES IT ALL. Els pajaritos es van enviar tots junts a japo, ara per sort ja no fem mes! Corre un rumor que el govern...
