Annapolis Valley - Kingston

Kingston is a village in Kings County on the north bank of the Annapolis River. In the early 1800s the small community was centered around farming and was first called "Bloomfield". The name "Kingston Station" was given to it in 1868 when the Halifax-Yarmouth main line of the Dominion Atlantic Railway was built and passed through the community, with its station being meant to serve the neighboring communities of Kingston Village (now known as Greenwood) and North Kingston. With CFB Gander and CFB Goose Bay, CFB Greenwood is being used as a forward deployment base for CF-188 Hornet fighter/interceptor aircraft rotating in from CFB Bagotville as part of NORAD's post-9/11 response to concerns about civilian airline security along North America's east coast. CFB Greenwood hosts a Royal Canadian Air Cadets summer training centre known as CSTC Greenwood. CFB Greenwood is also the home of 517 F/Lt. Graham Squadron, an air cadet organization. Annapolis Valley - Hantsport

The area around Hantsport was known to the Mi'kmaq as Kakagwek meaning "place where meat is sliced and dried" and the town is still home to a small reserve known as the Glooscap First Nation or Pesikitk. Created in 1907 as Horton 35, the reserve encompasses 171.1 hectares (423 acres) of mainly forested land.
