G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: Degreasing and Painting the Pearl
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2008/07/degreasing-and-painting-pearl.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Monday, July 21, 2008. Degreasing and Painting the Pearl. The grease was stubborn, largely owing to the original paint which had become somewhat porous over the years. I don't know where this press had been, there may have been a little bit of etching action on the paint, which could have come from sea air, as if in a coastal area. Here are some photos of the day spent with the Pearl. The day began by asking co-conspirator Jeff to stop by the hou...

G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: Behind the 7x11 Pearl OS Model 3
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2010/03/behind-7x11-pearl-os-model-3.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Tuesday, March 23, 2010. Behind the 7x11 Pearl OS Model 3. My Aussie Blue Heeler will serenade you as we go along. She hates it when I'm in the shop and she's not. Here are some still shots, including one with the ink disk removed. Also, as a note, the only place that a spring is located on my press is the chase clamp. It anchors to the neck casting with receives the ink disk. I hope these images are helpful, Rachel. G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: The Florida Letterpress Inaugural Wayzgoose!
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-florida-letterpress-inaugural.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Monday, February 25, 2013. The Florida Letterpress Inaugural Wayzgoose! Well, it came quick, and ended all too soon! It began as an idea that I posted on the Florida Letterpress Yahoo Group's list page. Gosh, there really are no Letterpress Wayzgoose events happening down in the Deep South. Why not put one together here in the Sunshine State? TBAS Letterpress Coordinator Carl Nudi and Director Prof. Richard Mathews agreed! A Bookbinding Demo,.

G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: A New Delivery Table for the Pearl
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2008/10/new-delivery-table-for-pearl.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Wednesday, October 8, 2008. A New Delivery Table for the Pearl. Here are some shots I took along the way. The iron castings were screwed to a 2x6 and spray painted with oil based black Rustoleum. Normally, I use a brush to apply paint to presses, but these are undercastings, not in plain sight, and there was a sale on the spray Rustoleum. The castings received two coats of paint. When the table was sufficiently dry, it was brought out to the pres...

So, what do you do when it's your day off, it's the last day before payday, your pretty well out of funds, your cat of 13 years dies and you need something to distract you for a while? Make drawers, of course! What's the deal with the Feed and Delivery tables? Didn't I make a new table a few installments ago? Yes But guess what? Here's a closer look. Not too shabby, if I may ...

G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: The Kluge "Open" Press
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-kluge-open-press.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Tuesday, April 23, 2013. The Kluge "Open" Press. In other words, this press is very elusive. And fairly rare. So, I thought that I might do with my Open Kluge what I did with my Pearl OS Model 3: post a continuum of articles and photos dedicated to the Open Kluge, if no other reason than to provide at least something for the next fella that wants to find out any sort of definitive information about it. There is more detail, but I think you have a...

G. Johanson, Letterpress: Letterpress Printing & Design: Rehabing the Feed and Delivery Tables for the Pearl O.S. No. 3
http://gjohanson.blogspot.com/2009/02/rehabing-feed-and-delivery-tables-for.html
G Johanson, Letterpress:. Letterpress Printing and Design. Saturday, February 7, 2009. Rehabing the Feed and Delivery Tables for the Pearl O.S. No. 3. Whoever did the original repair may have been a good printer, but woodwork may not have been the strong suite. Hard to tell through a century of dust, ink and crud. This is the larger of the two tables, the delivery table. A bead of wood glue right across the cut, spread, the excess applied to the other half of the table. Well, more to come. Stay tuned.

Paper Wren Press : Mama's Sauce and the Paper Wren Celebrates Seven-Or-So-Years.
http://paperwrenpress.blogspot.com/2014/10/mamas-sauce-and-paper-wren-celebrates.html
Anna Coleman, Illustrator. Saturday, October 25, 2014. Mama's Sauce and the Paper Wren Celebrates Seven-Or-So-Years. Seven (or so . . . I was just notified by Linkedin that it's been seven) years ago, Nick Sambrato, of Mama's Sauce. Nick was installing a 1950s era 12 x 18 Kluge Automatic, a stunning example of 1940s era "robotics". Chase Heavner was, I believe, Nick's first Letterpress client. Chase owns a production company (" Fiction. So, to celebrate, what, seven years now?

Paper Wren Press : Another Publication of Hornbooks!
http://paperwrenpress.blogspot.com/2014/10/another-publication-of-hornbooks.html
Anna Coleman, Illustrator. Sunday, October 26, 2014. Another Publication of Hornbooks! Making Hornbooks is a sideline for Paper Wren Press. We make them because we love History, and we love and appreciate historical processes. I have already posted several articles about the Hornbook on the "G. Johanson, Printer" blog, it's background, how ours are made, why we choose the materials we do, &c., and as you read this, if you wish to delve into these articles, click here. I use a Chop Saw at first to make th...

Paper Wren Press : August 2013
http://paperwrenpress.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Anna Coleman, Illustrator. Tuesday, August 20, 2013. Hannah and Colin's Announcement. This order will be a bit different, which is why I am featuring it here. How does an idea get from the drawing board to the Letterpress, to the Client? This is the first installment of what will be a two part blog entry. I penciled out the rough on the Bristol board with a No. 2 soft, using a kneaded eraser for corrections. Not a lot of corrections were required for a simple design. Twenty-one pica line length provided ...
