Around 1866 a hotel was licensed at the corner of Boggo and Ipswich Roads called The Junction Hotel around which a host of shops sprung up to service the surrounding farmland. Annerley was named by the Hon. Digby Denham, former Premier of Queensland (1911-15) after a township in Surrey, England known as Annerly.
